  6. Thank you for your interest in Search and Replace 'Wizard'.
  7.  
  8. This program is intended as an add-on to Search and Replace.  It
  9. allows you to visually see how regular expression searches are
  10. processed and which parts of the match are found by each expression.
  11. You can build expressions using our user interface, without knowing
  12. the regular expression syntax in detail.  Replace expressions can
  13. also be built visually and the results can be previewed.

  15. Page 1 - Sample Text
  16. The Search Expression and Replace Expression fields do not need to be
  17. filled in.  After the first use, they will be filled in either with
  18. the last expressions used or with expressions from a running copy of
  19. Search and Replace.  Case sensitive applies to the search expression.
  20. You can either type in sample data into the edit box provided, Paste
  21. text from the clipboard using the button provided or Load text from
  22. a file using the button provided.  The text will be used to search 
  23. through and show the results in subsequent screens.
  24. When you filled in at least the Sample Text field, click Next to 
  25. continue.

  27. Page 2 - Search Expression
  28. The Sample Text field will show Search hits when the expression can
  29. produce at least one hit.  Items shown in blue relate to the curent
  30. row selected in the Expression list.  The rest of the hit is shown
  31. in red.  The colors are consistent with the colors configured in 
  32. Search and Replace's options.
  33. The Expressions list shows the current subexpressions that comprise
  34. the search expression.  By clicking on each expression, the controls
  35. on the right will show in plain language what each expression does.
  36. By the same token, the controls on the right can be used to specify
  37. a new rule for the match or modify the existing one and then either
  38. Add, Insert or Apply the changes to the selected item.

  40. Page 3 - Replace Expression
  41. The Replaced Text field shows the changes in the original sample text.
  42. The color coding and general operation of this screen are similar
  43. to the previous screen.  The Expression Type list contains the 
  44. correct number of items that can be found based on the 
  45. Search Expression built on the previous screen.

  47. Page 4 - Evaluation
  48. This screen shows the Search and Replace results next to each other.
  49. You can review previews and next hits (if any).  When you review
  50. a different hit, you can go back (using the Back buttons) and
  51. see how each subexpression is matched and/or modify your parameters.
  52. When you click the Finish button, if a copy of Search and Replace is
  53. running, the search and replace strings are updated there before
  54. exiting.  If not, the strings are simply saved for the next time
  55. you run the program.
