  1.                               BattleForce Setup

  4.      BattleForce is a ShareWare program.  If you play the game and decide you
  5. like it, a contribution of $25 is requested.  Those that contribute will
  6. become registered owners.  All registered owners will receive a disk with the
  7. latest version of BattleForce.  The disk will also include several support
  8. programs; Warrior, a character generator/update program; Factory, a mech
  9. building/repair program; HQ, a program to create your own Combat Orders for
  10. the game; and a Map Editor program.  To register, send your contribution to:

  16. GAME SETUP:
  17.      Format and Install a blank disk.  Copy the BattleForce ARC file onto the
  18. disk.  CD to the disk and UnARC the file with "ARC e BattleForce".  This will
  19. UnARC the file.  Once you have the file UnARCed you will this file and three
  20. "ExecuteMe" files.  These are used to set up your disk and rename files.
  21. They all assume the BattleForce disk is the current disk.  Use the CD command
  22. to make the BattleForce disk the current disk if necessary.  Before you start
  23. delete the BattleForce ARC file.  This will give you more room on the disk,
  24. but make sure it isn't your only copy.  The "Execute.1st" will create all of
  25. the directories that you need.  The "Execute.2nd" file will rename all of the
  26. files and put them into the correct directories.  The "Execute.3rd" file will
  27. copy certain Amiga files from a WorkBench disk into the appropriate
  28. directories on the BattleForce disk.  This file assumes that the WorkBench
  29. disk is in drive DF0: and the BattleForce disk is in drive DF1:.  If you are
  30. using any other configuration either transfer the files manually or modify
  31. the Execute.3rd file.  Once you are done your disk should look like the
  32. "Listing" file.  Now boot the disk, read the "ConfigEd_doc" file, and run the
  33. ConfigEd program to set up your configuration.

  35. HARD DRIVE SETUP:
  36.      BattleForce multi-tasks and works fine on a hard drive.  Copy all of the
  37. program files over too your hard drive.  Make sure and keep the
  38. sub-directories.  I put all my game file sub-directories in a directory
  39. called "gamefiles", but you can do it any way you want.  When you are done,
  40. run the "ConfigEd" program and change all of the paths to match the way you
  41. have set up your drive.  When you "Save" from the ConfigEd program it will
  42. create a file called "BattleForce.cfg" in the S:  directory of your boot disk.

  44.      All BattleForce programs use a wide variety of support files.  It is
  45. important that the programs be able to FIND these files.  The programs will
  46. look for images files in a subdirectory called "Images" on the boot disk.  It
  47. will look for sound files in "SND", map files in "Maps", saved games in
  48. "Games", unit files in "Units", warrior and technician files in "Warriors"
  49. and mech files in "Mechs".  In addition, it expects mechs to be subdivided
  50. into four classes of mechs, "Light" 20-35 tons, "Medium" 40-55 tons, "Heavy"
  51. 60-75 tons, and "Assault" 80-100 tons.  If you create new mechs and put them
  52. in the wrong subdirectory some parts of the programs will have trouble
  53. finding your new mechs.  To help you set up your disk ALL programs try to
  54. read a file called "BattleForce.cfg" in the S:  directory of your boot disk.

  56.      You can change the included config file with the included "ConfigEd"
  57. program.  Make sure the paths are valid paths and correct.  THIS IS VERY
  58. IMPORTANT.  If the programs can not find the files they need they will not
  59. work.  If a program can not find the config file it will default to just the
  60. subdirectory name on the boot disk.  In addition, The config file will set
  61. some variables in BattleForce.  Please read the ConfigEd_doc file.

  64.      The DEFAULT for BattleForce is NOT to save characters at the end of the
  65. game.  For the ShareWare version this should NOT be changed.  If you do you
  66. will eventually destroy the few warriors included with no way to repair them.
  67. If you are a Registered Owner you can change the default with the ConfigEd
  68. program.
