  6. What is NCSA Mosaic 
  7. --------------------------------------------------------------------
  8. NCSA Mosaic is a distributed hypermedia browser designed for
  9. information discovery and retrieval.  It provides a unified interface
  10. to the diverse protocols, data formats and information archives
  11. used on the Internet. 
  12.  
  13. Basic Information
  14. --------------------------------------------------------------------
  15. For those of you behind Firewalls:  We are starting a Firewall 
  16. mailing list in hopes of trying to solve the problems associated here.
  17. To join this list, mail the developers and put FIREWALL in your
  18. subject line.
  19.  
  20. To run this tool you will need the following; System 7.0 (or higher), 
  21. MacTCP (2.0.4 is preferred - 1.x has bugs that will result in memory 
  22. problems) and a network connection (Apple Remote Access can be 
  23. used through a modem for the network connection).

  25. NCSA Mosaic should function on all types of Macintoshes, including 
  26. the SE and the Classic.
  27.  
  28. NCSA Mosaic is available by anonymous ftp from ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu 
  29. (141.142.20.50) in directory /Mac/Mosaic as NCSAMosaicMac.103.sit.hqx
  30.  
  31. The NCSAMosaicMac.103.sit.hqx has been stuffed using Stuffit 1.5 and 
  32. has been encoded using Binhex 4.0.  You can un-binhex and un-stuff the 
  33. file using any utility which handles these compression schemes.  If you 
  34. don╒t have one try StuffitExpander  (it nicely handles both schemes)
  35. located in the Mac/Mosaic directory.  In order to un-binhex the expander 
  36. follow the directions in Binhex.README located in Mac/Utilities.

  38. Also read the QuickStart Installation Guide, QuickStart.Txt, in 
  39. the Mac/Mosaic directory.

  41. Bugs and Improvements for 1.0.3:  (For a comprehensive list of

  44. Bug Fixes
  45. --------------------------------------------------------------------
  46. - There were several bugs that caused serious CRASHES. These have been fixed. 
  47. - Reloading during an image load has been fixed. 
  48. - Preferences bug has been fixed. 
  49. - Styles bug has been fixed. 
  50. - FTP would fail if there was a character with ASCII > 128 in response string. 
  51. - When load of image failed for some reasons (memory, bad gif), the file would not be deleted. 
  52.   This is now done, resulting in a cleaner Temp folder. 
  53. - XBMs didn't read the last line causing some XBMS to not read correctly.

  59. - Anonymous FTP is now more robust.
