  1. This is Atari version of a program 'makeinfo' which should make life
  2. easier for all those lazy souls, which would like to have some
  3. reasonably formatted documentation from FSF (GNU-project) but do not
  4. want to run TeX.  It converts TeX files which are using 'texinfo'
  5. macros into .info files which can be displayed on a terminal or
  6. printed on a line printer.

  8. This program is derived from an original 'makeinfo', version 1.0 but
  9. sources changed quite a bit.  In particular they were converted to
  10. ANSI C and they compile now correctly with 16-bit wide int's.  The
  11. current version of sources is included in the archive.

  13. On Atari ST file name extension for output is .inf when files are not
  14. split and .-<num> in a case of splitting, where num are consecutive
  15. numbers starting from 1.  It follows that you cannot have more than 99
  16. numbered parts :-).

  18. Some bugs of the original program were removed and other small changes
  19. were done.  It recognizes, in particular, (some?) constructs which
  20. were added to recent version of texinfo macros.  I tried this program
  21. on some pretty sizeable input files (around 280K) and it worked, but
  22. there is always a possibility of this one more bug.
