  11.    IBM's WebTalker product enables real-time, full-duplex 
  12.    voice communication over TCP/IP networks, such as LAN or Internet.
  13.    It is based on IBM's SoftDataPhone technology for real-time transfer
  14.    of voice over data networks.

  18.    1.  System Requirements
  19.    =======================

  21.    a.  486 DX4-100 MHz or Pentium PC running Windows95.
  22.    b.  MCI-compatible sound card.
  23.    c.  A network connection through a token ring card to a LAN, or through
  24.        a modem and SLIP/PPP to an Internet provider.
  25.    d.  A microphone and speaker (or headphones) connected to the sound card.
  26.     
  27.    The software was tested on the following configurations:
  28.    
  29.    1.  Hardware:  100 Mhz 486/DX4 PC, 60/90/100/133 Mhz Pentium PC.
  30.    2.  O/S:  Windows95.
  31.    3.  Sound Cards: SoundBlaster 16, Mwave Card (see note at the
  32.        end of this document), IBM PC 700 built-in
  33.        audio (Microsoft Sound System compatible).
  34.    4.  TCP/IP stacks: Windows95 (Dial-Up Networking SLIP/PPP).

  38.    2.  Installing WebTalker
  39.    ========================

  41.    a.  Download WTSETUP.EXE to a temporary directory on your local hard disk.
  42.    b.  Run WTSETUP.EXE which is a self extracting zip file. This will create
  43.        the instalation files in your temporary directory.
  44.    c.  Run SETUP.EXE from the temporary directory, and follow the 
  45.        installation instructions provided.
  46.    d.  Connect to your provider your Internet access software.  For best
  47.        results, you should connect with V.42 compression disabled (see 
  48.        note at the end of this document).

  52.    3.  Operating WebTalker
  53.    =======================

  55.    a.  To activate the software, double click on the WebTalker icon.
  56.    b.  From the main window, choose 'Setup', enter your email address
  57.        and the WebTalker server's address, and click "OK".
  58.    c.  Press the 'Call' button, and enter the email of the person you 
  59.        wish to call.  To see a list of all the users who are currently 
  60.        logged on, press the User List button.
  61.    d.  When you finish the call, press the 'Hangup' button.

  69.    Note about disabling V.42 compression
  70.    -------------------------------------

  72.    To get better performance from WebTalker, you should disable the V.42
  73.    compression of the modem.

  75.    The following describes how to disable  V.42 compression for various
  76.    system configurations :

  78.    Windows95
  79.    ---------
  80.    1.  From the "My Computer" folder, open "Dial-up Networking".
  81.    2.  Click the right mouse button on the "IBM Global Network" object,
  82.        and select "Properties" from the popup menu.
  83.    3.  In the Properties dialog box, press the "Configure" button.
  84.    4.  In the Configure dialog box, choose the "Connection" tab.
  85.    5.  Press the "Advanced..." button.
  86.    6.  In the Advanced Conection Settings dialog box, uncheck the "compress
  87.        data" checkbox.
  88.    7.  Press "OK" on all the open dialog boxes.

  92.    Note about using Mwave as a sound card
  93.    --------------------------------------

  95.    To use Mwave as the sound card in Windows95, you must install the
  96.    Native Windows95 Mwave support (currently available in alpha version).
  97.    Using the Windows 3.1 Mwave drivers may cause problems with this  
  98.    application.

  100.    Note that this limitation does not exist in the Mwave-dependant 
  101.    version of WebTalker.
