IBM Internet Connection Phone Version 2.01
⌐ 1997 IBM Corporation
************************************************
===========================================
IC Phone Version 2.01 - New Features!
===========================================
╖ Audio delay shortened.
╖ Automatic half duplex mode, works better now.
╖ Fixed 100% CPU mistake.
╖ Small user-interface improvements.
╖ Sound base sample-rate (quality) choice:
Allows soundboards that do not support 8kHz (like MWave)
to be used.
NOTES:
1. No warning is issued for high sampling rate
on slow computers!
(Users with less than Pentium 100, SHOULD NOT ATTEMPT
using more than 8kHz sampling rate.
If necessary, use the HALF DUPLEX MANUAL mode only).
2. The sampling rate choice goes into effect only after leaving
and re-entering the application.
================
0. Introduction
================
IBM's Internet Connection Phone enables real-time, full duplex
voice communication over TCP/IP networks, such as LAN
or Internet.
It is based on IBM's technology for real-time transfer of voice
over data networks.
===========================================
1. Features - What IC Phone can do for you
===========================================
IC Phone has the major functions you'd expect from a regular
telephone and more!
╖ Call back previous callers
╖ Adjust microphone sensitivity
╖ Adjust voice quality by adjusting the buffering. Should be low
for LAN with minimal delay and high for bad internet
connection
╖ Configure the phone for computer speakers or headphones
╖ Select from the various servers to find other IC Phone users
=======================
2. System Requirements
=======================
╖ 486 / 66Mhz (for GSM-VQ codec and sampling-rate lower
than 8k) running Windows 95, 8 MB RAM or:
586 / 100MHz (for G723 codec or sampling-rate higher
than 8k) running Windows 95, 16 MB RAM
╖ Sound card such as SoundBlaster card or Mwave digital
signal processor (built into IBM's multimedia PC's and
Thinkpads).
Both full duplex and half duplex sound cards and drivers are
supported.
╖ A microphone and speaker (or headphones) connected
to the sound card.
╖ A network connection through a modem and SLIP/PPP to an
Internet access provider, or through a local area network
adapter.
╖ TCP/IP stacks: IBM Internet Access Kit (SLIP),
Trumpet (SLIP), NetManage (PPP), and Windows 95
(Dial-Up Networking SLIP/PPP).
╖ For Full duplex audio use full duplex sound card and drivers.

3. Installing IC Phone on the new Aptivas:
===========================================
There is a problem with the Aptiva and the ICPhone Setup
program. The ICN201AP.EXE is an alternative for this
installation program. After extracting the ICPhone files,
you can manually install the program by following these
simple (we hope) instructions.
a. Download the ICN201AP.EXE program to the directory
you want the ICPhone installed in.
NOTE: It is recommended you call it ICPHONE.
b. Change to the directory where you saved the file.
c. Double-click the icon for the self extracting zip file
ICN200AP.EXE, or specify it's full path after choosing RUN
from the Win95 task bar.
d. Copy the following files
mfc42.dll, msvcirt.dll, msvcrt.dll
into your system directory (eg C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM).
NOTE: These files are System files: if you have newer files
installed, it is recommended you DO NOT replace them.
In this case, your program should work, without copying the
files.
e. copy the file SDPSERV.INI into your WINDOWS directory.
(eg C:\WINDOWS).
f. Connect to your Internet provider using the IAK or any
other Internet access software.
g. {optionally)
Add an ICPhone icon to your desktop by clicking with the
right mouse button on an empty spot in your desktop.
Select new. Select shortcut.
Browse and find SDP32.EXE.
In "Select a name for the shortcut" write: "IBM IC Phone"
======================
4. Operating IC Phone
======================
a. To activate the software,
run the SDP32.EXE program in the directory you chose,
either by double clickin on it, from the explorer, or selecting
START and RUN and finding it with BROWSE.
Or if you created a shortcut as specified in 'g', double click
on the icon.
b. From the main IC Phone window, click the Setup button.
c. Enter your email address, select an IC Phone server,
and click the OK button.
d. Click the Call button, and enter the Email address of the
person you wish to call. To see a list of all the IC Phone
users, click the User List button.
e. When you finish the call, click the Hangup button.
For more information, click the Help button.
=========================
5. Uninstalling IC Phone
=========================
To remove IC Phone:
a. Manually delete the installed files.
If the program had been run once, there will be an
extra SDP.INI file in the Windows directory. It is safe
to erase this file.
