  5.     optmsg - remove deleted messages from mail section

  8. SYNOPSIS
  9.     optmsg /dd/mail

  12. DESCRIPTION
  13.     optmsg is used to remove delete message records from the MAIL
  14.     index file.  Since netmail transfers append additional records
  15.     directly to the end of the MAIL mindex file, blank spaces will
  16.     result, and the mindex file will continue to grow, unless optmsg
  17.     is used. Optmsg isn't necessary for systems that don't perform
  18.     netmail transfers.

  20.     Optmsg should be executed at least once a week by rcron.

  23. BUGS
  24.     optmsg now only works with the mail section, so the argument should be
  25.     hard coded.

  27.     This utility will probably be removed in future releases.
