NAME:
beacon - mailbox system beacon creator.
AUTHOR:
Eric Williams WD6CMU, 71336,1424
SYSTEM CONFIGURATION:
OS9/68K, MW C v2.0
SYNTAX:
beacon
DESCRIPTION:
beacon creates a line of text for unproto transmission via packet
radio. The line contains the callsigns of stations for which un-read mail
exists in the mail system. Even if such mail exists, the line will not
contain the callsign of the mailbox, nor will messages of type 'B' be
included in the search for un-read mail. The line of text is sent to
standard output. If no mail meeting the criteria is found, no text is
created.
Periodic execution of beacon can be accomplished by use of the cron
daemon. The output from beacon is normally sent to the beacon pipe of the
desired host mode translator via the write program. For example:
beacon ! write /pipe/beacon.t1
