  4. This file is written for Version 2.5 of KWSE.

  7. What is KWSE?
  8. =============
  9.  
  10.     KWSE is a graphical utility for editing the "kwsaver.list" file found in 
  11. your /dd/SYS directory for use with KWSaver.  KWSE provides a quick and simple 
  12. graphical interface for choosing which screen-saver programs you wish to have 
  13. in effect when KWSaver is running.  Sleep/Never-Sleep Zones are also supported 
  14. by this version.

  17. Using KWSE
  18. ==========

  20.     KWSE has no command-line options (other than '-?' for help).  KWSE runs in 
  21. an overlay window atop the current window.  KWSE reads the "kwsaver.list" file 
  22. (or ".kwsaver.list" file alternatively) to learn all the screen-savers 
  23. currently installed on your system.  These savers are listed in the large box 
  24. within KWSE's window.  If a saver is "active", a circular dot is placed in 
  25. front of the saver's name.  Being "active" merely means the saver can be used 
  26. by KWSaver when it's time to run a screen-saver program.

  28.     There are 7 buttons on the right side of the KWSE window.  Most of them 
  29. (Enable, Disable, Delete, and Test!) all require that you "select" a saver 
  30. from the list on your screen.  How do you select a screen-saver?  Click on its 
  31. name.  You should see the saver become raised (highlighted), and you can then 
  32. click on one of the following buttons:

  34. ENABLE:  Makes the selected saver active.
  35. DISABLE: Makes the selected saver inactive.
  36. DELETE:  Removes the selected saver from the list.
  37. TEST!:   Runs the selected saver just as KWSaver V2.5 would.  To stop the
  38.            screen-saver, hold down the mouse button.

  40.     The following buttons perform functions which do not require a saver to be 
  41. selected from the list of savers:

  43. ADD:     Allows the user to add another saver to the list of savers.
  44. SAVE:    Saves the modifications to "kwsaver.list" (or ".kwsaver.list").
  45. QUIT:    Exits KWSE.

  48. Rearranging Savers
  49. ==================

  51.     If you don't like the order with which the screen-savers are listed within 
  52. the file, you can switch them around.  Point your mouse pointer at the 
  53. screen-saver you wish to move and hold down the mouse button.  After about a 
  54. second, the saver will have a dotted-line appear around its name indicating 
  55. that you are now able to move it to a new location in the list.  Continue 
  56. holding down the mouse button and move the screen-saver to the location you 
  57. wish it to appear in the list.  "Drop" the saver at the new location by 
  58. releasing the mouse button, and the moved saver will be swapped into the new 
  59. position.

  62. Sleep/Never Zones
  63. =================

  65.     Starting with Version 2.0 of KWSaver, Sleep and Never-Sleep Zones are 
  66. supported.  You select which zone you want by clicking on any of the 3 choices 
  67. (No Zone, Sleep Zone, or Never Zone).  The "zone" is the very upper-left 
  68. corner of the screen, when KWSaver is running.

  70.     If Sleep Zone is selected, when the mouse enters the zone, KWSaver will 
  71. immediately choose an active screen-saver and run it.  This is for when you 
  72. are about to walk away from your desk and you want your screen-saver to begin 
  73. at once.

  75.     If Never Zone is selected, when the mouse enters the zone, KWSaver will 
  76. beep twice to indicate that the mouse is within the Never-Sleep zone.  As long 
  77. as the mouse remains within the zone, KWSaver will never run a screen-saver.  
  78. This is for when you are working on something where you do not interact with 
  79. your computer constantly, and you wish to prevent the screen-saver from 
  80. continually popping-up.

  82.     No Zone means the upper-left corner of the screen has no special meaning, 
  83. so no zone is defined.

  85.     ** Note that when you make changes to the screen-saver list (and SAVE the 
  86. changes), the changes take effect right away.  So, if you ENABLE certain 
  87. savers, they could be run the next time KWSaver needs to run a screen-saver.  
  88. HOWEVER, changes in the zone do not have any effect until you quit and restart 
  89. the KWSaver program!!

  92. KWSE Technical Notes
  93. ====================

  95.     The maximum number of screen-savers KWSE can hold is 22.  If there are 
  96. more than 22 savers (including both enabled and disabled) within the 
  97. kwsaver.list file, only the first 22 will be loaded in.  The additional savers 
  98. will remain in the kwsaver.list file until the SAVE button is pressed.  Once 
  99. the file is re-saved, the additional savers will no longer be listed within 
  100. the kwsaver.list file.

  102.     KWSE can be run on either a 16-color or 256-color screen, however the 
  103. size of the screen must be at least 43x24, so it is impossible to run KWSE on 
  104. a Type 3, 4, or 5 screen.  Type 8 & 9 screens (which are 256-color) are large 
  105. enough for KWSE to run in.
