-
- For 'COMMAND' button - use the button underneath the OBJECT button, which
- has COMM written underneath it.

-
- 1. INTRODUCTION
- ---------------
-
-
- Welcome to TimeZoner! Timezoner is OPTIONAL shareware - donate money
- if you enjoyed it and would like to see some more.
-
- TimeZoner is a graphic adventure which uses a point and click interface
- to operate - this is explained later on.
-
- There is no part 2 to TimeZoner as yet, although if there is great
- demand for one, I may consider releasing it as licensware/shareware.
-
- If you have played and enjoyed part one and would like to donate
- some money (NOT compulsary) or would like to express your wishes for a
- part two, please write to:
-
- C.Partridge,
- Sceptresoft,
- 9 Westbourne Ave.,
- Wrea Green,
- Nr. Preston,
- PR4 2PL
-
-
-
- 2. RUNNING THE PROGRAM:
- =======================
-
- Simply insert the disk into the drive and follow the prompts! You
- need 1.5Mb of memory to run TimeZoner (I think).
-
- I would suggest clicking on Read_Docs before playing TimeZoner -
- it helps to know how to work the thing properly!
-
- There are also a few other programs included, such as screenshots of
- Zulu! - the best game ever, soon to come from Sceptresoft, a game that
- never was and an interesting pattern maker.
-
-
- COMPATIBILITY:
- --------------
- TimeZoner has only been tested on the A500 and A1200 computers. It
- requires at least 1 Mb of RAM to run.
-
-
- HARD DRIVE
- ----------
-
-
- To install onto a hard drive:
-
-
- 1. Boot up WorkBench on your hard drive.
-
- 2. Insert TimeZoner disk 1.
-
- 3. Double click on the disk icon and then the HD-Install icon.
-
- 4. Follow the instructions.
-
- TimeZoner will only run properly from hard drive if the assignment
- TZONE: has been made to the directory with all the data files in.
-
- This can be permanently assigned by altering the startup-sequence (or
- user-startup on kickstart 2.0 or greater). Consult your workbench manual
- for full details on doing this - you will need to type in something like
- ED S:USER-STARTUP to edit the script and ASSIGN TZONE: DH0:GAMES/TZONE
- to make the assignment. These lines vary according to your kickstart
- version and the pathname of the directory where your files are.
-
- The correct assignment statement is given to you after installation by
- the HD-Install program.
-
-
-
- 3. IN-GAME CONTROLS
- ===================
-
- After loading, there will be some brief lines of text, and the intro.
- screen will be displayed. Click the left mouse button once, and you will
- be on the menu screen, which gives the scenario and plays a nice little
- toon.
-
- Pressing SPACE starts part one, and pressing Q quits out of the game.
-
- Once you have pressed SPACE, there will be some more disk-whirring. (time
- for all you hard drive owners to feel smug) Then you will have started the
- game, and there should be a console at the top of the screen with buttons on
- it such as TAKE, DROP, EXAMINE, etc...
-
- TimeZoner can be controlled from the keyboard or the mouse - keyboard
- users simply need to type in the commands on the keys and press RETURN to
- enter a command.
-
- Clicking on these buttons with the left mouse button will place the
- appropriate command into the bottom window, as if you had typed it in on the
- keyboard (which you can also do).
-
- Clicking the right mouse button at any time will enter the command
- displayed in the window into the computer and the computer will act on that
- command and display a response. The RETURN key, the RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON and
- the blue button on the console with a right-angle arrow on it all produce
- this effect.
-
- There are two CYCLE BUTTONS on the left of the console, with OBJECT and
- COMM written next to them. If you keep clicking on these with the left
- mouse button, they produce a different output each time; cycling through the
- available objects and commands.
-
- The buttons labeled 1-5 are the RUCKSACK buttons and represent what you
- are carrying in your rucksack. Clicking on these outputs the name of the
- object held to the window at the bottom. The ? button performs an inventory
- of all objects in the rucksack.
-
- The best thing to do to understand what each button does is to click on
- the command cycle button (has COMM written next to it) until HELP is
- displayed in the bottom window. Then press the right mouse button. A menu
- will appear. Type 1 on the keyboard for on-line help and press RETURN.
- (note: pressing 2 and RETURN lists all the commands and 3,RETURN asks for a
- HINT)
-
- You should now be in ONLINE HELP mode. Clicking on a button at the
- top now results in an explanation of that button's function.
-
- Do this until you are familiar with all the controls, and then press the
- right mouse button to return to the game.
-
- You now have two choices: try it all out for yourself, or go through the
- small tutorial later on in this document. The choice is yours!
-
- -------------
-
- HINT
-
- Smart users will have already noticed the HINT function. I hasten to point
- out that this function is only put in for people who are REALLY REALLY
- REALLY BADLY stuck on the game and haven't got a clue what to do.
-
- Please don't abuse this function, or you will complete the game in about an
- hour and won't really enjoy it or get any satisfaction!
-
- YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
-
-
- --------------
-
- 4.FULL TUTORIAL
- ===============
-
- Load up TimeZoner. Press the left mouse button when the intro. screen
- appears, and then press space when the menu screen appears.
-
- You should soon have started the game.
-
- Click once on the button marked TAKE.
-
- Now move to the object cycle button (Has OBJECT written above it)
- Click once on here. The lower window should read 'Take Pot'.
- Click again on the button. The window changes to 'Take Floor'
- Keep clicking until the bottom window says 'Take Crumpled Message'
- Now press the right mouse button to execute the action.
-
- You have just taken your first object! Feels good, huh?
-
- Let's check that you are actually carrying the message.
- Click once on the button marked '?'. This is in the bottom right of the
- button console.
-
- The bottom window will then tell you what is in your rucksack, and there
- will be the message!
-
- Now to read the message itself. The best way to do this is to use the
- EXAMINE button. Click once on this button. The lower window now says
- 'Examine'.
-
- Now let's use the rucksack buttons to add the name of the crumpled message
- to the command in the bottom window. You have just picked up the message,
- so it will be in location 1 in your rucksack. Click once on the button
- marked '1' (near to the ? button)
-
- Now the window says 'Examine Crumpled Message'. Good. Press the right
- mouse button once, and there is the message in all its glory!
-
- Once you have read it, put it down by clicking once on 'DROP' and once on
- rucksack location 1. Press the right mouse button, and you will drop the
- message.
-
- Just as you examined the message in your rucksack, so you can examine it in
- the room without taking it first. Click on EXAMINE, and then click the
- OBJECT CYCLE BUTTON until the display reads 'Examine Crumpled Message'
- again. If you pressed the right mouse button now, you could view the
- message again - BUT DON'T. Let's use another button - the one with an 'X'
- on it.
-
- Click once on the 'X' button. The command in the window disappears! This
- button deletes all of the current command, and saves you from having to
- press backspace several times to delete it.
-
- Click on the button marked with an up arrow on it. (^) Click again. And
- again. Watch the command output in the window. This button goes back
- through your previously entered commands and lets you re-execute them or
- edit them. Clicking on the down arrow now goes back through them until you
- reach the current line again!
-
- Click the down arrow until there is no command output in the window.
-
- Click continually on the COMMAND CYCLE BUTTON (underneath the OBJECT CYCLE
- BUTTON) and watch the output. This button cycles through all the
- less-frequently used commands such as MUSIC OFF or QUIT.
-
- Keep clicking until you reach 'MUSIC OFF'. Press the right mouse button.
- Now click on the button again until you get to 'MUSIC ON'. Press the right
- mouse button. This demonstrates the use of this button.
-
- That's the end of the tutorial. You are now on your own! Enjoy the
- adventure...
-
-
-
- 5. STUCK?
- ----------
-
- You're stuck? Shock! That's normally the only reason people ever read the
- manual, so that's why I included this section.
-
- Pointers in the right direction
- ===============================
-
- Try each one of these solutions to solving your problem:
-
- 1. Most problems benefit from a fresh approach. Go away for a while,
- and then come back and try again. You may find you suddenly
- realise what it was you were doing wrong before.
- 2. Perhaps the solution requires a less-frequently used command. These
- can mostly be accessed by clicking on the COMMAND CYCLE BUTTON.
- If you can't find anything in there, use the HELP command and then
- press 2 and RETURN to list all the commands that TimeZoner supports.
- The solution HAS to be one of these commands!!
- 3. Ask a friend - two minds are definitely better than one, and
- different people have different methods of solving problems.
- 4. As a LAST RESORT - use the HELP command and type in 3 and RETURN on
- the keyboard. This will give you a fairly unsubtle hint as to what
- to do next.
- 5. If the hint didn't help - explore ALL the rooms. Maybe there's a
- room you didn't even know existed! (Many people miss the pantry
- in part one)
- 6. Check out ALL the objects. Most of them have a use of some sort,
- although there may be a couple of red herrings in there somewhere.
- 7. If you have looked through all these solutions and NONE of them
- work, you'd better write to me for help.
- Write to:
- TimeZoner Hints,
- Sceptresoft,
- 9 Westbourne Ave.,
- Wrea Green,
- Nr. Preston,
- Lancs.,
- PR4 2PL
-
- enclosing a FULL description of your problem.
