  9. This AMOS game has been released into the SHAREWARE/POSTERWARE market!

  11. The programs and files on this disk must NOT in anyway be changed or 
  12. altered.

  14. You may make copies of the game using programs such as X-Copy, and can give 
  15. them to all your friends, who can thus give copies to all their friends.
  16.  
  17. But if you do play the game and like it (which I really hope that you
  18. do), because of all the hard work I've put into its creation, if you're 
  19. feeling generous, please spare some cash, and mail it C/- the address below, 
  20. along with any comments about the game that you may have.

  30.                            INTRODUCTION
  31. Welcome to LEAGUE SOCCER CARDS - the best version to date, and the 
  32. final in the trilogy of the Soccer Cards series.
  33.  
  34. First there came Soccer Cards - based on the English FA Cup championship 
  35. (and later the role model for Tim Blacklock's Premier Picks).
  36.  
  37. Next came Soccer Cards US94 - a much improved version of the above game, 
  38. this time based on the 1994 World Cup in the USA.
  39.  
  40.  
  41. Now comes League Soccer Cards - the greatest version ever!
  42.  
  43.  
  44.  
  45.                             LETS BEGIN
  46. There have been a lot of changes made to this new version, so even 
  47. die hard Soccer Cards fans (if any do exist!) should read on.
  48.  
  49.  
  50.                             THE LEAGUE
  51. There are a total of 8 divisions (4 league and 4 non-league), each
  52. containing 6 teams each, making a total of 10 games a season.
  53.  
  54. Because of the continuous changes in league sponsorship - and to avoid 
  55. copyright hassles - the 4 non-league divisions have fictitious names, 
  56. though they do in every way represent the existing divisions.
  57.  
  58. During the game, each player will be represented by a particular 
  59. colour.  
  60.  
  61. The little people on the Menu screen don the correct colours for
  62. each player.
  63.  
  64.  
  65.                           UPS AND DOWNS
  66. Simple really - the top team goes up, the bottom team goes down.  
  67.  
  68. The player whose team ends the season bottom of the lowest 
  69. non-league division (the MANDY LEAGUE) will be sacked.
  70.  
  71. Here, if there is just 1 player playing the game, the game will end, 
  72. and you will be returned to the opening MENU screen.

  74. If more than 1 player has been selected, the computer will take
  75. control of the team whose player has been sacked.

  78.                 WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ORDER SIR/MADAM?
  79. Upon loading, you will be presented with a MENU featuring 3 items, 
  80. as I will now describe...
  81.  
  82. 1>  LOAD PREVIOUSLY SAVED GAME - Kinda speaks for itself hey!  
  83.                                  When you select this option, click 
  84.                                  on the drive that you wish to load
  85.                                  from.
  86.  
  87. 2>  PLAYERS - The number of players currently selected to play is
  88.               indicated by a red number.  Click on the appropriate
  89.               little person to change the player numbers.  
  90.               Up to 6 players can compete at the same time!!!
  91.  
  92. 3>  SELECT TEAMS - This option is described below.

  95.                        SELECTING YOUR TEAMS
  96. On this screen you have 3 options.
  97.  
  98. 1>  EDIT TEAM NAMES - If your favourite team isn't listed, click 
  99.                       on this option.
  100.  
  101.                       You enter a new club by clicking on the
  102.                       appropriate letters (Max 12 CHRs ONLY).
  103.  
  104.                       The options here allow you to 'DELETE' the 
  105.                       last letter, 'CANCEL' the whole operation
  106.                       (therefore restoring the previously selected
  107.                       team), and 'ENTER TEAM' which is quite 
  108.                       blatantly obvious!!!
  109.  
  110. 2>  MENU - This (believe it or not) returns you to the menu above.
  111.  
  112.  
  113. 3>  PLAY GAME - Here, each player selects a club from the list, and
  114.                 then the fun really begins.
  115.  
  116.  
  117.                         PLAYING SOME SOCCER
  118. You will always begin in the lowest reaches of the non-league.  So 
  119. it will take a bit of work to rise to the dizzy heights of the 
  120. Premier League!
  121.  
  122. After each player selects their club, you will be shown the fixtures
  123. for all 8 divisions!
  124.  
  125. You will then move onto the playing screen.
  126.  
  127.  
  128.                          THE PLAYING SCREEN
  129. As usual, each player takes it in turn to draw a card, but in LEAGUE
  130. SOCCER CARDS, there is now a big exception!
  131.  
  132. In previous Soccer Cards there were only GOAL and NO GOAL cards.  
  133.  
  134. Now, other cards have been added to the deck, all of which I will 
  135. now explain (quantity of cards shown in brackets)...
  136.  
  137. FULL TIME (1) - For better or worse, the match ends.
  138.  
  139. NO GOAL (5) - You missed a chance of scoring a goal.  Your opponent
  140.               now draws a card.
  141.  
  142. GOAL (5) - You've guessed it!  You have scored a goal, and you can 
  143.            now run about your room with your arms held aloft!!!
  144.  
  145.            After scoring a goal, you select another card.
  146.  
  147. OFF SIDE (3) - If you have just scored a GOAL, and the next card
  148.                drawn is an OFF SIDE card, your previous goal will 
  149.                now be cancelled! 
  150.  
  151.                Play returns to your opponent.
  152.  
  153. FOUL (2) - You lose a turn!
  154.  
  155. PLEASE NOTE - The home team will always draw first, and will place 
  156. their card to the left hand side of the screen.

  159.                         RESULTS AND TABLES
  160. When all the games have been played, you will be shown the results
  161. from all the divisions.
  162.  
  163. Just like previous versions of SOCCER CARDS, the results of the other
  164. games are not purely created out of random.
  165.  
  166. Some teams are stronger than others, though as in the real game, 
  167. there can still be shock results!
  168.  
  169. After the results, all the league tables will be presented.

  172.                          THE LEAGUE TABLES
  173. In League Soccer Cards, 2 points are awarded for each win, with 
  174. 1 point for a draw.
  175.  
  176. There are 3 options on this screen...
  177.  
  178. 1>  SAVE - Select the disk option if you wish to save off and come
  179.            back later.
  180.            You have a choice of which drive you wish to save to.
  181.   
  182. ***IMPORTANT NOTE*** PLEASE have a formatted disk ready and inserted
  183. into the drive.
  184.  
  185. PLEASE ENSURE THE DISK IS WRITE ENABLED, so the data can be stored to your 
  186. disk immediately.
  187.  
  188. 2>  CONTINUE - If there are further games remaining, you are shown the
  189.                next set of fixtures to play.
  190.  
  191.                If the season has come to an end (10 GAMES played),
  192.                selecting this option takes you to the End Of Season
  193.                screen <read below>. 
  194.  
  195. 3>  QUIT GAME - Quits the game, returning you to the Amiga DOS screen.
  196.  
  197.  
  198.                           END OF SEASON
  199. All the 'Ups and Downs' are shown here, along with any sackings or
  200. congratulations that may be in order.
  201.  
  202. If all is well, you begin the next season - if not, it could be 
  203. GAME OVER!
