Tele Scroll 2 Information.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
=================
Introduction...
=================
Tele Scroll 2 is a Video Titling program. It was written with Amos v1.35 on a
A600 with 2Mb and then Compiled with AmosPro Compiler.
Tele Scroll 2 is Public Domain.
In these instructions (and the program) I've used the following terms as
follows...
Set Titles - These are the titles defined by me that you can change using
the Change S.T option. I.e. Editor, Producer, Director, etc.
Titles - These are what you choose from the main menu, to go with your
Names.
Names - These are the Names to go with your Titles.
Items - I've used this word to mean any/all of the above.
================
The program...
================
Unlike Tele Scroll 1, Tele Scroll 2 uses Fonts instead of Bobs. To get the
best out of the scroll routine I`ve only opened a 2 colour screen and only
allowed a maximum font size of 24. By doing this the Scroll is smooth plus
you have a choice of 3 scroll speeds.
I,ve also put a Multi-Tasking Off/On option in the program to make the scroll
even smoother. I didn`t turn this Off because when I turned the Time routine
On before some people told me the program didn`t work on their machines - so
to make sure the same thing doesn`t happen with the Multi-tasking I`ve left
you to decide wether or not to switch the Multi-tasking Off or On.
Once you`ve set the Time, Multi-tasking, etc Off/On they will be left in that
state until you change them again. Multi-tasking Off will automatically be
Off at the start of your sequence and then back On at the end of your
sequence. Multi-tasking On will just keep the multi-tasking On, all the time,
as normal.
To get the best results you`re better off keeping everything small. I.e. your
Margins (see below), your Titles and Names, your Fonts, etc.
When the program opens you will see the Main Menu with six Icons at the
bottom of the screen and in the middle of the screen are some of the Titles.
You simply select a Title and enter a name for it. You can have upto 18
Characters per name.
I've only allowed upto 18 characters per name because, of course, if you
select a large Font the Characters may not fit onto the screen.
You can have upto 72 Titles and Names in your sequence, aswell as upto 50
Cast Names.
=========================
Typing in your Names...
=========================
If you want more than 1 name per title simply use one of the Blank titles to
do so. For example, if you wanted 3 names for the title 'Screenwriters' you
would do the following...
1) Enter 1 name for Screenwriters as normal
2) Go to the Blank title below 'Screenwriters' and enter 1 name for that
Blank title. When you've finished simply re-enter the Blank title and
type in another name.
As you can see you just use the Blank title underneath your Title to add more
names.
If you accidently go past the blank title you can use the nearest blank title
instead, but if you do this it means you can't use any titles between the
blank title you missed and the nearest blank title.
==============
The Icons...
==============
Icon 1: Left Key - You have a Cast in your film.
Right Key - You do not have a Cast in your film. Perhaps your film
is a Documentary.
Icon 2: Left Key - Enter your Cast name(s), if needed.
Icon 3: Left Key - The Post Production menu.
Icon 4: Left Key - Test and Play. This will test for errors and then play
your sequence if no errors were detected.
Icon 5: Left Key - The Edit menu.
Icon 6: Left Key - A reminder of the Keys and Mouse Keys. Go to this menu
first.
===============================================
The Edit Menu and the Post Production Menu...
===============================================
These menus simply allow you to Load and Save your sequence, Erase Memory,
change the Scroll Speed and generally fine tune your sequence.
You can Load or Save certain parts of your sequence. For example, you could
load in your Wedding Titles and then load in different names for those titles
or you could load in some Names and then load in different titles for those
names.
You must load in the same number of items. For example, you cannot load in 6
Titles and then load in 10 Names. The program won't let you quit this menu
until the items are equal. Also, when you first select the above option you
must load in a set of Titles and a set of Names. You cannot load in a set of
Titles for example and then carry on. If you try to do this the program won't
let you quit this menu until you've loaded in some Names. Once you've loaded
your first set of (equal) Titles and Names you can simply load your titles
and Names seperately, as long as they're equal to the last item you loaded.
The Directory function on this menu simply allows you to check what's on your
disk. This is only to remind you what's on your disk. It doesn't erase files,
make new drawers, etc.
The 'Again' button means read the directory again. This looks at 'DF0:' so if
you need to read another disk's directory then simply swap disks when you are
Viewing a Drawer and hit the 'Again' icon. The 'Post' button takes you back
to the Post-Production menu.
View Directory reads upto 60 items (Drawers and/or Files). The Scroll Arrows
will not scroll the listing if 'Start' or 'End' is less or equal to 20. The
Mouse has no Scroll Bar when choosing a Drawer to view so you will have to
watch the Mouse's Tip when you click on a drawer's name. There are Keyboard
buttons for the above.
The Method function has 3 options...
1) Scroll with the Titles on the left and the Names on the right. Scroll
with the Character names on the left and the Real names on the right.
2) Same as above, but only the Real names are scrolled from the Cast. This
is in case you don't have any Characters in your film, just Stars.
The Real names scroll in the Center of the screen.
3) Scroll with the Titles on top and the Names below. Scroll with Character
names on top and the Real names below.
Cast On/Off: You can turn the cast Off/On and keep the cast for later use or
you can turn the cast Off completely.
To toggle the Cast On/Off just enter your cast names and then
use the Post-Menu to switch your Cast Off/On.
To turn the Cast Off completely just press icon 1.
Time: There is a routine in the program that uses your clock allowing you
you to calculate the time of your sequence. The routine gives you a
Start time and a End time, so you will have to calculate the time
yourself. This couldn't be helped as there is no way I can set your
clock to 00:00:00 for timer purposes from within Amos. However, I
hope the routine is of some help to you. There is a Off/On button
for those who don't have a clock, etc.
Display: You can move the screen display around in the X and Y positions.
This function doesn't highlight the screen so you will need to know
what co-ords your Television (or Monitor) uses.
Memory: If you use the Erase Memory function you will not be able to Save
your items because the memory banks your items use will be erased.
You will still be able to use your items though.
Gap Keys: The Gap Keys are there to cut down on key pressing. For example
with the Gap Total set to 1, if you wanted to change the Pause
rate from 100 to 150 then you would simply set the Gap Total to 50
and press the Pause rate button once to reach 150, rather than
pressing it 50 times to reach 150 when the Gap Total is set to 1.
Pause: This function allows you to specify the time you wait before your
sequence starts. The value you enter for this function will also
be added to the end of your sequence. Note, because of this
function, the Pause value is added to the start Time function and
the End time function. So your actual sequence time will be a
second or so less.
Many of the program messages, etc, have been cut short, I.e S.T instead of
Set Titles, etc simply because there wasn't enough room on the screen.
If you Load some Titles and Names (whilst still on the Main Menu part of the
program) you can go to the Main Menu and add other Titles and Names to the
END of those you've just loaded in. Don't type in your sequence and then Load
in some Titles and Names because you will overwrite the sequence you`ve just
typed in. The above only applies to your Titles and Names, you cannot add
Cast Names to loaded in Cast Names.
-----------
Margins...
-----------
Character Tail: This is the Tail size (Characters that have a tail) of your
Font. The screen size is... Height of Font + Character Tail.
Normal Margin: This is the Margin between each Title and Name and also the
Margin between each Character name and Real name. The Screen
size is... same as Character Tail + Normal Margin.
Cast Title Margin: This is the Margin between the Cast Title and the first
name. The screen size is... same as Normal Margin +
Cast Title Margin.
Cast Names Margin: This is the Margin between the last name of your Cast and
the first Title. The screen size is... same as Cast Title
Margin + Cast Names Margin.
Method 3 uses the Cast Title Margin to put a Margin between each set of
Titles and names and a Margin between each set of Character names and Real
names.
========================
Testing the program...
========================
1. Load Titles & Names - the Filename is 'Test'
Load a Cast - the Filename is 'Test'
2. Hit the 'Test/Play' Icon with your Left Mouse Key and follow the prompts.
When the sequence has finished you will be presented with a small menu. This
gives you the following choices...
Re-Run the sequence - Do I need to say more!
The Edit menu - calls back the edit menu allowing you to re-edit ya sequence
The Post-Production menu - calls back the post-production menu allowing you
to load/save new names, titles, etc.
Go back to the main menu - This goes back to the main menu and resets every-
thing. You can type in new names, etc.
So, as you can see, the first part of the program is really for things like
typing in your names, etc. Whereas the second part (after your sequence has
been shown) is for the editing side of things. You can edit your sequence
before of course, if you already know your Scroll Speed, Pause Rate, etc,
but on the whole it's best to edit afterwards just in case you`ve made a
typing error!
======================================
Please take note of the following...
======================================
There is no Reset button for the Cast Names menu. If you make a mistake when
you're in the menu just finish your Cast Names entry (by entering any old
rubbish) and then simply re-enter the Cast Names menu to start again.
I have not disabled the Break key so if you need to exit the program you can
use the program's Quit option or press CTRL and C.
To make a new disk up just put 4 Drawers on your new disk and name them the
same as mine. I.e. Titles, Names, etc. You can call the Disk whatever you
like because Tele Scroll 2 always looks at 'DF0:'.
==============
Filenames...
==============
I've only given you 15 characters for your filename because it's a bit naff
for example, having to type in a filename of 20 characters or more everytime
you need to load/save something...isn't it?!!
I advice you to set your filename something like the following...
72WedJohn
Where 72 is the number of Titles, etc in your sequence - Wed means your film
is a Wedding - and 'John' is the name of your filename or the name of your
Wedding Video person, etc.
