- THE ULTIMATE QUIZ by Andy Gibson.
-
- Installation Help File.
-
-
- Information:
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- This file is intended to give you some information on how
- to Install this game to either your Hard Disk or to another
- Floppy disk.
-
- I know that most people will use the Installer to install
- the game to HD as there is not much point in installing it
- to another floppy anyway !
-
- However, the game will look for these devices for its Quiz.Data
- file.
-
- DF0: DF1: or The_Quiz
-
- So you could make a compilation floppy with the game on it if
- you so desire.
-
- (Please see below about game compilation disks.)
-
-
- Before you use the Installer on the original game floppy,
- make sure that you have done the following:
-
- 1: Booted from the Hard Disk or from the floppy that you
- want to install the game to.
-
- 2: Make sure that on the Hard Disk or floppy that you are
- going to install to has these files present:
-
- S/User-Startup
- C/Assign
-
- Your hard disk should have these files already present in the
- desired directories anyway.
-
- For people wishing to Install this game to another floppy then
- make sure that the floppy that you are going to Install this game
- to has the above mentioned files.
- You will also have to make sure that your floppy boots up to
- WBENCH also before using the Installer on the original game disk.
-
-
- Okay ... So now you have Booted from the floppy or hard disk.
- You should be in WBench. Now insert the original game disk into
- DF0: or DF1:
- Double Click on the disks icon which is named The-Quiz.
-
- You will now see other icons which are there for loading the game
- and various ReadMe files. (including this one, so I guess that you
- have already done the above !)
-
- Anyway, you should now double click on the Install_Quiz icon to
- start the Installer.
-
- I have used the official Commodore Installer as it is used by just
- about everyone these days and nobody can go wrong with it !!!
-
-
-
- Installing:
- ~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- You will see the official Commodore Installer on the screen.
-
- (Click on HELP for some more info that I have included for
- installing this software to your Hard Disk.)
-
-
- *1.3 (1.3 Amiga owners please note that the HD Installer may not
- ~~~~ function in the exact same way that it does under Kickstart
- 2.x or above. However, it will still install the game to your
- Hard Disk for you so don't worry if you don't see some of the
- options mentioned in this text.
- eg. 1.3 owners will not see the first option screen that I am
- referring to above or the HELP text !)
-
-
- After reading the HELP section, click on PROCEED and you will
- be greeted with the options to install for real or pretend to
- install and also if you want to install under Expert Mode etc.
- Click on HELP if you are unsure on what to select.
-
- Now click on PROCEED once again and you should see the option to
- choose where you want to install the game to. (ie. in which
- partition and/or directory etc.)
-
- Now select where you want to install the game to. A directory
- called The_Quiz will be created manually for you wherever you
- wish to install the game to.
-
- eg. If you choose to install the game to Work:Games then the game
- will be installed into Work:Games/The_Quiz
-
- Click on PROCEED to start the installation.
-
- All the files needed to run the game will be copied to your chosen
- destination path.
-
- Once all files are copied over from floppy to HD then you will
- hopefully see the option telling you to click on PROCEED to add
- the Assigns to your User-Startup file.
-
- *1.3 (1.3 owners will probably not be asked about the assign being
- ~~~~ added to their HD ! It will be done automatically for you.
- I have tried this installer on a 1.3 Amiga with HD and it did
- the job beautifully ! I didn't think that it had added the
- assign to the User-Startup file until I loaded it into a text
- editor and there it was .... already done by the installer.
- So there you go .... )
-
- If you do not have a User-Startup file in your S dir then you will
- not see this option and you will have to manually add the Assign
- to your Startup-Sequence manually !
-
- If a User-Startup file is present ....
- Click on PROCEED and the Assigns will be added for you.
-
- Using our example above the Assign will look like this:
-
- Assign The_Quiz: Work:Games
-
- After the installer has added the assigns to your User-Startup
- file you will then have to ReBoot/Reset your Amiga so that when
- you next boot up it can read the Assign command.
-
- You should now be able to play the game from your HD.
-
-
- GAME COMPILERS NOTICE:
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- To make sure that this Installer will function 100% then you will
- have to boot from the floppy that you wish to install this game
- onto.
-
- You will also need a file called User-Startup in the S directory.
-
- And of course the disk must Boot up to WBench.
-
-
- However, you may not want to use the Installer as it also copies
- over the ReadMe files and icons all into a directory called
- The_Quiz. Which also means that you will have to include the
- Assign command in your C directory.
- All these files take up space that could go towards adding another
- game or file etc. to your compilation disks .... so ....
-
- I would NOT use the Installer for this purpose !
-
- Most game collections don't load to WBench so there is no need for
- the games icons or ReadMe files is there ?
-
- What I would do is just copy the needed files manually.
- Either using OPUS / SID etc.
-
- The only files needed are .....
-
- QUIZ
- Quiz.Data
-
- No Libraries etc. are needed for this game to run.
-
- The file called QUIZ can be renamed and crunched with PPACKER if
- you wish.
-
- The file named Quiz.Data must NOT be crunched or renamed ! (beware)
-
- Now here comes some interesting news for all you game compilers.
-
- The game will look for its Quiz.Data file in these devices:
-
- DF0: DF1: The_Quiz:
-
- So you could name your disk anything you like as the game will look
- for the file in either DF0: or DF1:
-
- If you want to copy the Quiz.Data file into a directory then I'm
- afraid that you must add an assign command !
-
- eg If you copy the Quiz.Data file to a disk called MyDisk in a
- directory called MyDir then you would add this line to your
- Startup-Sequence :-
- Assign The_Quiz: MyDisk:MyDir
-
- To avoid using the assigns just copy the Quiz.Data file to the
- Parent/Root directory of your compilation disk.
-
- Oh yes .... the game can be loaded from CLI by just typing its
- name. This makes it perfect for all you compilers that like to
- include your own MENU LOADING SCREENS.
- (No need for WBench to be loaded first for icons.)
-
- I hope that I have covered everyone's needs with my game.
-
- I have thought of HD owners and also game compilers too.
-
- I have added as much info as I could to explain where everything
- should go etc.
-
- However, there will always be someone who just can't seem to get
- it right !
- So if you feel that you are having some problems with either
- copying or installing this game then drop me a line including
- as much info as you can regarding the problem you are facing.
- I will try my best to sort it out for you.
-
- I will even include your groups name into the game code too !
-
- eg ASSISSINS present ...
-
- This would make your compilation more personal.
-
- Don't forget to include a floppy disk and postage costs please.
-
- I have had people requesting info from myself before regarding
- other Amiga related problems and they never sent any postage costs
- to myself !!!
-
- I'm sorry but I can't afford to pay postage for everyone's requests.
- (Could You ?)
-
-
- FINALLY:
- ~~~~~~~~
-
- If you are gonna include this game on a compilation disk then please
- send me a copy. I will return to you a copy with the game file
- with your name on it.
- I would be interested to see just how many different compilations
- that my game will be included on .... please.
-
- Thanks for now and happy compiling/installing/playing.

-
-
-
- P.S.
- (While you're at it .... send me the £5.00 registration fee and I
- will rush you a copy of the complete game. Details of which can
- be found in the QUIZ_ReadMe file.)
