  2.  THE WHEEL IN SPACE.   Written by David Whittaker.   4 episodes.
  3.                        27th April - 1st June 1968.

  5.  COMPANIONS:- Jamie and introducing Zoe Heriot.
  6.  
  7.    The TARDIS materialises aboard a rocket which is orbiting a huge Wheel in
  8.  Space. The Doctor and Jamie are taken aboard the Wheel and find that
  9.  Cybermats are at work. The Cybermen are using them to try to gain control
  10.  of the Wheel, in preparation for a new attempt at invading Earth.
  11.    With the help of a young astrophysicist called Zoe, the Doctor first
  12.  manages to save the Wheel from a meteor storm engineered by the Cybermen
  13.  and then destroys the Cyber ship with the Wheel's laser.
  14.    At the end of the story, Zoe steals aboard the TARDIS but is discovered.
  15.  After pleading to be allowed to join the Doctor and Jamie on their travels,
  16.  Zoe is shown the perils she will face when the Doctor projects a past
  17.  adventure onto the TARDIS scanner. This led to a repeat the following week
  18.  of THE EVIL OF THE DALEKS.
  19.    THE WHEEL IN SPACE was scripted from a story by Kit Pedler and it was the
  20.  last story of season five, one which  became known as The Monster Season.
