Subject: Phil Conducts Berkeley Orchestra
Berkeley Symphony Orchestra
May 11, 1994
Guest Conductors Benefit Concert
Guest Conductor: Phil Lesh
Set 1
Stravinsky, Infernal Dance from Firebird Suite
Set 2
Carter, Celebration
Encore: Reception Party
Phil was real groovy. he was dressed in a tuxedo and looked real
sharp. Jerry, who showed up to watch his partner, on the other
hand was wearing bright turquoise pants. Hysterical. There was a
miracle guy there screaming to be let in.
Phil didn't use a baton. He was moving his foot a lot like he
does when he starts one of his songs at a dead show. He was
moving and positioning his body a lot during his music. Most of
the guest conductors and symphony members were mostly there for a
good time. For Phil, this was business. He really tried hard to
do a good job.
Jerry didn't show for the reception. It was kind groovy shaking
Phils's hand while he was wearing a tuxedo. A fun night.
