Hey now ...
I hate to overrule you, ken@codon.nih.gov, ... but
So far as I know, Mississippi Moon was written by Peter Rowan (guitar on
Old and In The Way, among other accomplishments). Among Rowan's more
well-known tunes is the New Rider's Panama Red.
I actually read the lyrics, perhaps on an album cover (?) long ago ...
Mississippi Moon
by Peter Rowan
You tell me you're lonely
I know how you feel
Leaning up at the bars
Rocking back on my heels
She's a wild bird who wandered
Too easy to stray
I knew she had to lose me
To find her own way
Oh, Corey, I'll be coming soon
Through the Louisiana pines to the Mississippi moon
Through the Louisiana pines to the Mississippi moon
A wave on the ocean
A whirlwind on the sand
I took a notion
That her ship would not land
So light me a candle
In the forest so deep
Honey lay down beside me
Angels rock us to sleep
Oh, Corey, I'll be coming soon
Through the Louisiana pines to the Mississippi moon
Through the Louisiana pines to the Mississippi moon
Through the Louisiana pines to the Mississippi moon
Through the Louisiana pines to the Mississippi moon
And there ya have it!
