Someone recently asked for the words to "The Days Between" Here's my translation:
There were days
There were days
there were days between
summer flies and August dies and the world grows dark and mean
Comes the lightning of the moon on bright infested trees
sing man is at his song the holy on their knees
the reckless are unreckoned, the timid dig their pleas
and no one knows much more than this
than anyone can see, one can see
There were days, there were days, and there were days beside
whwn phantom ships with phantom sails set the sea on phantom tides
comes the shimmer of the sun on bright unfocused eyes
the blue of yet another day of springtime wet with sighs
a broken candle-lantern? in the land of lullabies
where headless horsemen vanish with wild and lonely cries, lonely cries
There were days, there were days, there were days i know
when all we ever wanted was to learn and love and grow
when we grew into our shoes, we told them where to go
walked halfway around the world on promise of the glow
stood upon a mountain top, walked barefoot through the snow
gave all we had to give, how much we'll never know, never know
There were days, there were days, there were days between.
Polished like a golden bone, the finest ever seen
nights of summer held in trust still tender, young, and green
left on shelves collecting dust not knowing what they mean
Valentines of flesh and blood as soft as velveteen
hoping love will not forsake the days that lie between, lie between
Well, it may not be perfect, but Jerry mumbles most of the words anyway!!!
Does anyone else notice how simple and "cheesy" Bobby's new songs are compared to Jerry's?
"Walkin' on Sunday, talkin' on Monday.......ready or not, ready or not,
VELVEETAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!!!, GIMME A BREAK, BOBBY"
BTW, if anyone knows the words to Lazy River Rd. please be KIND enough to share them with me.
Peace,
DIRE WOLF

I already sent this via email to the lady who originally asked, but
since there has been some confusion, here is the official version.
I'm also a big fan of this song, so was very glad to see this posted a
while back. Enjoy.

DAYS BETWEEN
by Robert Hunter and Jerry Garcia
There were days
and there were days
and there were days between
Summer flies and August dies
the world grows dark and mean
Comes the shimmer of the moon
on black infested trees
the singing man is at his song
the holy on their knees
The reckless are out wrecking
The timid plead their pleas
No one knows much more of this
than anyone can see anyone can see
There were days
and there were days
and there were days besides
when phantom ships with phantom sails
set to sea on phantom tides
Comes the lightning of the sun
on bright unfocused eyes
the blue of yet another day
a springtime wet with sighs
a hopeful candle lingers
in the land of lullabies
where headless horsemen vanish
with wild and lonely cries lonely cries
There were days
and there were days
and there were days I know
when all we ever wanted
was to learn and love and grow
Once we grew into our shoes
we told them where to go
Walked halfway around the world
on promise of the glow
Stood upon a mountain top
Walked barefoot in the snow
Gave the best we had to give
How much we'll never know we'll never know
There were days
and there were days
and there were days between
polished like a golden bowl
The finest ever seen
Hearts of Summer held in trust
still tender, young and green
left on shelves collecting dust
not knowing what they mean
Valentines of flesh and blood
as soft as velveteen
hoping love would not forsake
the days that lie between lie between

^lighting? ^If I recall, this is supposed
to be "dark," but Jerry seems
to seem light, the word from the
same spot in the next verse.
Gee, I've never noticed him to do that before!

(this is a sort of pun, thank you Hunter--reckless people are
people who do not "reck" (archaic word for heed) what other
people say or do. Hunter has them out "wrecking" things.

god, these lyrics give me chills just reading them on the screen!
Hunter and the boys look back on days of glory, heroism, and folly.

same author for both songs though, Bob Hunter. Guesss he can handle
chateaubriand with a side of cheese no problem.
