386MAX Questions
This document is for use with 386MAX and BlueMAX version 7.xx.
The following are questions that we hear often in technical support.
You can find more information on solving problems in the Q&A.DOC and
README files in the 386MAX directory on your hard drive, as well as in
the accompanying documentation. In the unlikely event that you
encounter problems during installation, these files are still
available in the 386MAX directory on your hard drive.
Type A:INSTALL (A: indicates the letter of the floppy drive) to
install 386MAX. If INSTALL fails to execute, type A:INSTALL/U/V.
When I try to Install 386MAX, I get an error message that says "Cannot
run install from within Windows. Aborting program." How can I run
Install?
Press <ENTER> to allow the Install Program to abort. Type EXIT to
leave the Windows DOS prompt. INSTALL cannot run in Windows. When
you return to Program Manager, press the <ALT> key and the F4 key at
the same time to exit Windows. Windows displays a warning if you need
to close open applications prior to leaving Windows. When you exit
Windows, you are returned to the prompt (C:\> ). At this point type
A:INSTALL to install 386MAX.
How do I respond to all the questions that are asked during Install
and Maximize?
386MAX offers on-line help to assist you in making the right
decisions. You may view this information by pressing F1 at any time
during Install or Maximize. If you are unsure how to respond to any
of the questions, accept the default by pressing <ENTER>.
386MAX failed before Maximize completed and now my system is locked.
What should I do?
Reboot the system (use your reset key or turn the power off) and hold
the <ALT> key down while the system is booting. If you get a keyboard
error, press the F1 key and hold the <ALT> key down again. Press any
key after you see the message that the memory manager is not installed
to continue the boot process. If you normally boot into Windows,
you'll receive an error message and Windows will not install. When
you get to the C:\> prompt, follow these steps to return your system
to the configuration you had before you installed 386MAX:
* Type CD \386MAX and press <ENTER>
* Type PREINST and press <ENTER>
This restores your system to the configuration you had prior to
installing 386MAX. You must reboot your system to activate the new
configuration.
DO NOT DELETE THE 386MAX FILES FROM YOUR HARD DISK. The files on the
hard drive do not affect the performance of your system and technical
support requires that the files be present on the hard drive before
they can help resolve problems.
