The AEHD+ drive is the most universal external drive available for the Macintosh. In a SWIM equipped system, the drive is fully compatible with Apple's Superdrive and supports the 800K GCR format along with the 720K and 1.44Meg MFM formats. If your Macintosh is NOT equipped with a SWIM controller, the AEHD+ drive is still capable of supporting all of the above formats providing you enable the appropriate AEHD+ driver.
The AEHD+ Control Panel allows you to disable the AEHD+ driver or select a suitable driver that will work with your hardware configuration. For unaccelerated Macintosh's, you should select the Standard driver. If you are using an accelerator then we suggest you select the appropriate driver tuned to work with your accelerator. If you do not find support for your specific accelerator then begin by selecting the Standard driver first. If that does not work then select the next driver in the list until you have found one that works of you have exhausted your choices. If you cannot find a suitable driver, call Applied Engineering Technical Support at (214) 241-6084. We will be happy to assist in creating a driver that will work for you.
This option disables the AEHD+ driver. In a SWIM equipped Macintosh it is not necessary to install a driver to get the high density formats. As a safety measure if you accidentally enable a driver the software will recognize the presence of a SWIM controller and refuse to install itself.
Select this driver if your system is NOT equipped with an accelerator. The standard driver has some support for accelerated Macintoshes but it is not universal. We also suggest using this driver if you have a Brainstorm, MicroMac, Newer, TechWorks, or Total Systems accelerator.
