  7. 1. Overview

  9.     This directory and its sub-directories contain the tools described
  10.     in the book, "Optimizing Windows NT", by Russ Blake (Microsoft
  11.     Press, 1994, 2nd Edition.)
  12.  
  13.     There are three subdirectories.  The MEASTOOL directory contains
  14.     a variety of useful measurement tools.  The PROBE directory
  15.     contains the Response Probe synthetic workload generator.  The
  16.     SRC directory contains the source for the Windows NT
  17.     Performance Monitor.

  19.     Each directory also contains another README.TXT file with further
  20.     information on its contents.

  23. 2.  Installation

  25.     To install the tools onto your hard disk:
  26.  
  27.         A.  Make the drive contaning this diskette or CD-ROM
  28.             your current directory.
  29.  
  30.         B.  Type:

  32.                 INSTALL <drive [and directory] containing these files>

  34.             and press the ENTER key.

  38.                 1. If you specify just a drive, do not include a trailing
  39.                    backslash:

  44.                 2. If you specify a directory, it must be an absolute
  45.                    path which includes the dirve specification:

  47.                         INSTALL D:\PERFTOOLS
  48.                         INSTALL \\SERVER\SHARE\PERFTOOLS

  52.     Normally you will get the executable images which are suitable for
  53.     the processor you are using.  In this case you will need somewhat
  54.     under 3 MB of hard disk space.  There is also an option to
  55.     install executable images for both x86 and MIPS platforms, in which
  56.     case you will need about 8 MB of hard disk space.
