How to Manually Deinstall AQM
-----------------------------
This document describes how to manually deinstall AQM.
If you have the original distribution diskette available,
please use the "SETUP.EXE" program on that diskette to deinstall
AQM.
These instructions are meant to be used only in the event that the
original distribution diskette is unavailable, or
the SETUP.EXE program on that diskette is not functioning.
WARNING! Editing the Windows NT registry is a delicate
procedure. If it is not done correctly, it can damage
a Windows NT installation, and even cause it not to boot.
In most cases, but not all, this kind of damage can be
corrected simply by choosing the "Last Known Good
Configuration" by pressing the spacebar while the system
is booting. Argent Software Inc. can assume no responsibility
for damage to the system or damages due to loss of data
resulting from making these changes to the registry.
HOW TO DEINSTALL AN AQM SERVER INSTALLATION
===========================================
To deinstall a server installation, follow these steps:
1) Make sure that the AQM service is stopped.
You can do this by:
- Using the Control Panel "Services" applet
-or-
- Using the AQM "qsystem/stop" command
2) Start "Registry Editor" by entering "START REGEDT32" at
a Windows NT command prompt.
3) In "Registry Editor", select the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
window and maximize it.
4) Under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" select the "SYSTEM" subkey,
then the "CurrentControlSet" subkey, then the "Control"
subkey, then the "Lsa" subkey.
5) In the right-hand pane, there should be a value called
"Authentication Packages". Double-click this value to edit
it. The contents of this value should be displayed, consisting
of "msv1_0", "AQMAP23D", and possibly one or more additional values.
DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING EXCEPT THE "AQMAP23D" PART OF THE STRING.
If you do change anything accidentally, select "Cancel" so the
changes won't take effect, and then double-click the value again
to edit it.
6) Carefully remove the "AQMAP23D" portion of the value. Make
sure there are no blank lines in the value, and that all other
values that were there before, except for "AQMAP23D", are still
there. Then select "OK". If in doubt, select "CANCEL".
7) Go back the the "CurrentControlSet" subkey, and under that
expand the "Services" subkey. Under that, there should be a
subkey called "Argent Queue Manager". Select this subkey, then
select "Delete" under the "Edit" menu. Registry Editor will ask
you to confirm that you want to delete the key and all of its
subkeys. Make sure that the key selected is the "Argent Queue
Manager" key, then click "Yes" to delete the key.
8) Go into the "SOFTWARE" key under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE".
Under that, expand the "Argent" key and under that the "Argent
Queue Manager" key. There should be a single key under that,
called "3.0". Select the "Argent Queue Manager" key and delete
it. If that was the only subkey under the "Argent" key, then
delete the "Argent" key also.
9) The changes you have made will not take effect until the
computer is restarted.
If you try to view the services at this point, you will get an
error saying that the services database is locked. This is normal.
Reboot your computer.
Special note:
If the computer does not boot, and a blue "Stop" screen appears,
then reboot again and this time press the spacebar when "Press
spacebar now to use the Last Known Good Configuration" message
appears and call Argent Technical Support.
10) After the computer is rebooted, log back on, and now delete
the "AQM" directory and all subdirectories and files in it. Also
delete the "AQMAP23D.DLL" file from your system directory (e.g.
"x:\winnt\SYSTEM32"). The deinstallation should now be complete.
HOW TO DEINSTALL AN AQM WORKSTATION INSTALLATION
================================================
To deinstall a workstation installation, follow these steps:
1) Start "Registry Editor" by entering "START REGEDT32" at
a Windows NT command prompt.
2) In "Registry Editor", select the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
window and maximize it.
3) Select the "SOFTWARE" key under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE".
Under that, expand the "Argent" key and under that the "Argent
Queue Manager" key. There should be a single key under that,
called "3.0". Select the "Argent Queue Manager" key and delete
it. If that was the only subkey under the "Argent" key, then
delete the "Argent" key also.
4) Delete the "AQM" directory and all subdirectories and files
in it. The deinstallation should now be complete.
