READ ME FIRST - GETTING STARTED WITH A-GENE
-------------
MULTI-DRIVE USERS:
Format a blank disk and copy the files in the A-Gene directory of
the distribution disk to this new disk. (Multi-Drive users will not
need the files WBstrip and Startup).
Re-Boot your Amiga (You will need to boot with either a standard WB1.3
disk or at least one with Copy, Delete, Relabel, Iconx and NewCLI in
your C directory.) Then click on the A-Gene.boot icon.
An A-Gene heading screen will appear, and when you click on it you will
be asked which disk your data disk is in. Assuming your blank disk
with A-Gene on it is in the drive DF1: then click on
the appropriate gadget. A-Gene will look for the data file Persfile,
if this does not exist then the program will automatically create a
set of blank data files. The program is then ready to accept your
family data.
SINGLE-DRIVE USERS:
This demo version of A-Gene will work on a single drive system only if
the program A-Gene and its associated data files all reside on the one
bootable disk. To this end I have provided the script files WBstrip
and Startup. To set up a single-drive version of A-Gene, proceed as
follows:-
1. Make a copy of an original Workbench 1.3 disk using Diskcopy,
X-Copy or a similar utility - DO NOT USE YOUR ORIGINAL WB DISK.
2. Copy the files wbstrip and startup to this Workbench copy and
re-boot your Amiga with the new disk.
3. Open a new CLI or Shell screen and enter the command at the
Amigados prompt 1> EXECUTE WBSTRIP
4. This script file will systematically delete unneeded files from the
WB disk, relocate graphicdump to your C directory and replace your
startup-sequence in S: with the file startup. This will leave enough
room on the disk for you to copy across the files A-Gene, A-Gene.boot
and A-Gene.boot.info. You will also have to copy your normal printer
driver file to the Devs/printers directory and reset Preferences to
take account of the correct printer driver. This will enable your
reports to be printed out correctly.
5. Now re-boot once again using the new disk and you will be able to
click on the A-Gene.boot icon to start A-Gene and proceed as under the
multi-drive users instructions to produce your blank data files.
