RoadScan - A checker for RoadRoute data files
Jim Butterfield .. small revision, August, 1990
Put this in the same directory as Roads and Cities, or at
least CD to that directory. Call the program, and it will
tell you a lot of stuff...
1. Duplicate roads. If you have two or more roads going,
say, from Boston to Providence, you'll be told about it.
There could be a reason to have two roads - one is faster,
the other is shorter - but it's usually an error.
2. Cities with no roads. You can't get there from here.
3. Cities with one road, two roads, or three. All quite
possible, but if they are "unimportant" points, you might
like to take them out and save space. For two/three roads,
connecting cities could be linked by direct roads.
4. Road links which are longer than multiple links for the
same route. Hey: "direct" gotta be at least as fast as "via".
Run RoadRoute for these paths and see what's wrong.
In typical use, you might want to redirect output to > PRT:
Revision: I never dreamed that anyone would connect more than
32 roads to a single city, so did not protect against this
possibility. Wouldn't you know it? Gunther Werner (Germany)
did so. OK, Gunther, I've raised the number to over 100 ..
see what you can do with THAT.
