CARMAGEDDON .TXT file convertor coding by Shayde. Made in NZ!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"What is it?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you have the demo/beta version of Carmageddon and have had a
nosey in the DATA subdirectory you may have noticed some .TXT
files there. Your curiosity may even have gone so far as to
cause you to try loading one of these files into a text-editor.
And of course (usually) you would have got rubbish. Well that's
because the files are ENCODED. Carmageddon decodes these files
internally when it needs to read data from them.
"What kind of data?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well all sorts really. Inside these text files lies such gems
as all the physics settings for the cars, how the pedestrians
behave, the text-messages displayed, even the powerup
definitions. If you have a play with these you can drastically
alter how the game behaves. But a caution: some of the stuff that
you can set in these text files will not work as the required
code is not present in the main .EXE. For instance, you can
play with the powerups file so it is possible to get, for
instance, pinball mode, etc. within the game, but a few of these
aren't actually IMPLEMENTED so don't be disappointed if they
don't work. The car settings would be something worth
experimenting with though.
"But how can I re-encode the file after I've modified it?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You can't. And you don't need to. Carmageddon only decodes the
file if it detects it is encoded. The game will read in the
.TXT file whether it is encoded or not. You'll have to rename
the .DOC file you get from this program to .TXT for it to work though.
"Okay, cool. So how do I use it then?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Couldn't be simpler. Just move into the DATA subdirectory (or
any of the Carmageddon directories with .TXT files) and type:
CV filename
NOTE: Don't enter the extension. .TXT is assumed. And of
course the CV.EXE file will need to be in your path or the
current directory! :)
"Anything else?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nope, that's about it. I wrote this about a month ago, around
the same time I wrote the timer-kill crack, but didn't get around
to releasing it cos I didn't think anyone would be interested (I
wrote it for my own amusement). But looking around it seems
there is a lot of interest in this game, so maybe this'll be
useful to you.
However, a caution: there is a lot of rather, er...shall we
say, ADULT language in these text files. If you're offended by
this, well, you've been warned. I guess they didn't expect
anyone to see their text! :O
"And finally?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GO AND BUY THE GAME WHEN IT COMES OUT!
Ciao...
