\fi380 PacMan is played like the PacMan you know and love. Use the arrow keys to move around. The 'p' key will pause the game and the 'n' key will start a new game. Hitting an arrow key while the game is paused will unpause the game. Clicking on the game window, hiding it, or switching to another window or app will cause the game to pause automatically.\
Everything should behave as expected for PacMan...the power dots, fruits, ghosts, etc. all work basically as they did in the arcade. The only real difference is the mazes. There are six different maze layouts, and none of them have tunnels right now. Until you reach the mazes with NeXT cubes as the fruit, you haven't yet "arrived," so keep playing until you do. :-)\

\b\i\fs48 Customizing PacMan :\
\b0\i0\fs24 \
\fi380 The Preferences... Panel, available from the Info> menu, allows you to customize PacMan to your taste. The functions of the controls are pretty obvious, especially if you are familiar with the other games that I've written, such as Columns and PillBottle. The difference between the Slow and Medium speeds is rather subtle, but there is a difference. On the other hand, the Fast speed is really like hyper speed on a 68040. On a 68030, it should be about like Medium is on the 68040. The sound options have not yet been implemented, so they remain unavailable.\
The alerts switch allows you to decide whether or not you want the alert panels to come up. (All the panels that are designed to keep you from accidentally wiping out a game in progress.) If they bother you, switch them off. The new game on launch allows you to decide whether or not a Command-n (new game) should be simulated as the game launches. The auto unpause feature allows the game to automatically start up after you switch the app back on or unhide it. Some people like this, but if you're the sort who has to find all the keys on the keyboard first, then you won't want automatic unpausing.

\fi380 To set the background, you can use the Preferences Panel to load one of several provided images or bring up an Open Panel which accepts any .tiff or .eps file. You can also drag and drop colors from the Colors... Panel to set the background to a solid color. Finally, you can drag and drop a .tiff or .eps file from the Workspace into the game screen.

The features in PacMan are heavily influenced by the requests of people like you. If PacMan doesn't do something you think it should do, let me know. Probably the next version will include your suggestions!\

Blatant plug: check out Columns and PillBottle, two other games I've written. They cost $10 each, or $15 for both, which is really a steal! :) If you decide you do like them, and send in the money, I'll send you back the source code as a way to say thanks.\
(NeXT is a trademark of NeXT Computer, Inc. Any other trademarks I may have inadvertently used without recognizing the fact still belong to their respective owners. Like, the name PacMan belongs to somebody who isn't me. The little NeXT cubes are derived from the Workspace Dock's NeXT icon.)
