Orlando Gibbons was one of the greatest and most important English
composers of the late Renaissance. His keyboard music can be seen as the
culmination of three generations of English keyboard music, dating back to
Bull and Byrd.
"The Pavane and Galliard Lord Salisbury" is one of the best examples
of the triple-section pavane and galliard, in which a different thought is
developed in each section. Quoting the Historical Anthology of Music, ed.
Archibald T. Davison and Willi Appel:
"Gibbons as an instrumental composer is is a typical example of
a 'late' master whose fin-de-siecle personality exudes the
fascination of an approaching decadence, but whose creative
power is still unbroken. The pavane which he wrote for the
Lord of Salisbury is a masterpiece whose utter refinement and
transcendental spirituality recall the late sonatas of
Beethoven."

EA or someone else comes out with a stand-alone player.
