DiskInfo v5.0 Copyright © 1990 by Stan Ziel, all rights reserved.
Note: If you've used an earlier version of DiskInfo, you should be
aware that the command-line options have been changed. Please read the
section entitled "Options" before using this new version.
This archive is freely distributable as long as the files within are
unmodified. No fee may be charged for the distribution of this archive
other than the standard connect-time charges for computer services or
media, postage and handling fees for disk libraries.
This archive includes the following files:
ReadMe.1st - this file
FFS.ml - sample MountList entries for FFS floppy drives
DiskInfo.doc - Documentation for DiskInfo and FFS-floppies
DiskInfo - the executable (size = 6984 bytes)
In addition to these files, you will need the following (not included
in the archive):
FastFileSystem - Provided with WorkBench 1.3, and should be in your
L: directory. You only need this if you wish to use
FFS-floppies.
arp.library - Part of the ARP package. This should be version 39
or higher (provided with ARP Release 3), and should
be in your LIBS: directory. DiskInfo will NOT work
without it.
WorkBench - Obviously. You will need 1.3 or 1.32. DiskInfo may
have problems under WB 2.0. (At the very least, it
will not be as useful.) You will need the Format
command if you want to create FFS-floppies. The
KickStart version does not matter; DiskInfo will
work with either 1.2 or 1.3.
DiskInfo is very easy to use. You could probably use it without
reading the documentation or by just glancing at it. However, if you use
FFS-floppies, it is very important that you read DiskInfo.doc. Since
FFS-floppies are not fully supported yet, you should be aware of any
problems you might face. The documentation explains this in more detail.
However, the problems using FFS-floppies are very minimal. The main
advantage of using them (the increase in disk-space) more than makes up
for these. Also, by using FFS-floppies, you will be getting a jump on
WorkBench 2.0! I think you'll find that with DiskInfo, using FFS-floppies
becomes almost second nature.
As usual, the author claims no responsability for any problems this
program might cause. But no problems are expected; DiskInfo works well
and I use it all the time.
Let me end this with why I wrote DiskInfo. First of all, I needed it.
Secondly, I hoped to cause a kind of "Murphy's law" to take affect. That
is: "The more effort you put into something that will be useless under
the next OS version, the sooner that version will appear." :-)
