XXEncode and XXDecode are two programs that facilitate the sending
of binary files through network mailers. These have the same basic
function as UUEncode and UUDecode, but are designed to eliminate the
problems associated with the characters UUEncode uses. See the
XXEncode.ReadMe file in the archive for details on this.
These Amiga versions are CLI-only and have several useful options that
make them a pleasure to use (no, really!). If a window-based version
(mouse- rather than keyboard-oriented) becomes a desire of several
users, I will implement such a version.
The biggest audience these programs are intended for are those that
use the ibm VM/XA network systems, which notoriously cannot use UUEncode
because of character translation problems. I happen to be one of these
people, so I know the feeling of not being able to use the UUEncode
program. (the vtvm1 address below is the cursed VM machine)
Additionally, any Amiga users that frequently use UUEncode should give
XXEncode a try to see how much more user-friendly (for lack of a better
term) it is....many options, multi-colored-text messages, strong error
control, checksum facility, etc.
