  21. QUESTION:  I would like to know if having sex at an early age can damage you,
  22. and affect you in later life?  I think this is an important question for you
  23. to answer in the paper.

  27. ANSWER:  This is a hard question to answer for you personally, as you provided
  28. me with no background about yourself.  Here, however, is some important
  29. general information, which may be educational for you and others as well.
  30.      If childhood self-exploration, masturbation or peer sex play has been
  31. pleasurable and without a frightening experience attached to it, then there
  32. should be no negative affects later in life.
  33.      If, however, the early sexual experience is marred by a frightening
  34. episode, such as the discovery by an adult, exploitation, shame, punishment,
  35. or pressure into the act (such as incest or rape), then an early sexual
  36. experience may lead to sexual dysfunction later in life.
  37.      Feelings of shame, anxiety, inhibition, guilt, and remorse may lead to
  38. arrested sexual development.  It may make the person unable to continue normal
  39. personal growth, and leave him or her unable to achieve appropriate
  40. relationships involving trust, closeness, and positive sexual expression.
  41. Early sex can also lead to medical problems later on in life.  Cancer of the
  42. uterus is more prevalent in women who began sexual relationships early on in
  43. life.  There is also a high rate of venereal diseases (VD) associated with
  44. early sex.
  45.      If you are a young teenager thinking about getting involved in a sexual
  46. relationship, you have some important thinking to do before making some major
  47. decisions.  You would be wise to discuss this with parents, counselors,
  48. clergy, teachers or physicians, anyone you trust and respect.  If then, you
  49. decide to proceed, find out all you can about disease prevention and learn
  50. about birth control, whether you are a boy or girl.  With the use of condoms
  51. and spermicidal jellies and creams, you can help prevent unwanted pregnancy
  52. and the transmission of some forms of VD.
