Transcription: For seven years, save the occasional lapses when despair would get the better of him, Franklin Roosevelt devoted himself to regaining the use of his legs that polio had stolen from him in 1921. By 1922, he was on crutches, his legs made rigid by 14 pounds of steel braces. It was as close to walking as he would get. But he never gave up in believing full recovery was possible. Roosevelt was not known to have squandered a single breath complaining about the turn of chance.
