SHADES OF GRAY: An Adventure in Black and White
------------------------------------------------------------------------
FILES ON DISK
--------------
RUN_S.EXE (AGT run file customized for this game)
SHADES.D* (Game files)
SHADES.HST (Historical Background and Summary of the game)
SHADES.PIF (Information which allows Shades of Gray to be played in Windows.
SHADEPOP.ZIP (Zipped pop-up hint files)
NOTE ABOUT MEMORY
-----------------
SHADES of GRAY is an unusually large text adventure, which means that it
is fairly memory intensive. If you get an error message which says something
like: "Runtime Error 203" it means that you haven't got enough live memory
to run the game. Lose a few TSRs and try it again. The game requires about
560k.
NOTE TO WINDOWS USERS
---------------------
To set up SHADES OF GRAY to work under Microsoft Windows, modify the included
.PIF file (SHADES.PIF) so that it uses the directory you've installed SHADES
into (modify the "Start-up Directory" field). It defaults to C:\SHADES.
If you are using 386 enhanced mode you can choose to run SHADES in a window
instead of full screen. To do so click on the "Windowed" button. It works
fine in a window.
To play SHADES OF GRAY, open the folder you wish to place it. Select FILE, then
NEW...program item. You will get the "Program Item Properties" window.
For description, call it SHADES OF GRAY. The command line will be SHADES.PIF.
The working directory will be the directory you've installed the game. You
can then choose an icon for it from the default Windows icons. Or possibly
someone out there who is artistically inclined will create an icon for the
game and post it on the GAMERS forum. After you've done this, double click
on the icon and it will start.
