~Desert Strike
A Collection of brief tips.
For a special little challenge try typing in HARDCASE.
(watch out this decreases your armour points)
Here are some very general tips for this stonker of
a war sim.
o If you are attacking coastal positions, approach
them from the sea as you don't use so much fuel
whils flying over water, so you can take as much
time as you would possibly wish.
o It is best to uncover as much fuel and ammo early
in the game as possible so, in an emergancy later
on, you know exactly where to go.
o Don't waste valuble missiles on non-moving targets.
Use you chain gun unless you are in a real hurry.
o There are lots of armour repair kits scattered
about each level, especially in the later campaigns.
There is always one under a power station by the
way so always look there first, when in an emergancy.
o The best all-round co-pilot is probably Lt.Kris Tinmarie.
She has both gunnery and winch skills, which will be critical
in the early days of the game, where you're getting used to
the control of your craft.
o Enemies can't see you, if you can't see them, so don't fly into
the centre of a battle with several enemies to take on at once.
Fly slowly towards each target in turn, trying to keep just one
on screen. Destroy it then move onto the next.
o If a weapon is pointing directly at you, fly away to avoid the
shot that will be let loose. As most of the weapons aim slowly
a sweeping approach is normally the best way to destroy them.
~Level One.
Try to follow the mission in the order that you are given or you
may get unstuck. If you follow the coastline up and then near
the top you will find a plane with a POW next to it, pick him up
and blow the plane up. Remember that if you fly over the sea
you will not use any fuel (I've found that it does !?!?). This
is worth remembering as you plot your route. Pick up any POW's
you see and if your armour is low drop them off back at sea base
to replenish it. If you choose the fly from above control you
can escape more easilly, but for the feel of flying choose the
with momentum control.
On objective 2, take out the rapier and the AAA, guns and shoot
the power plant, inside is a tool kit and some fuel and mias.
Find building with fast winch to help collect POWS.
Upon taking out the airfields, disable the gun turrets that are
scattered about before you attempt to blow up the hangars and the
idle planes.
~Some of the Bonuses to be found on this level .....
North East corner, three MIA's. Shoot the surrounding enemies,
collect and return them to the landing zone by the beach. Armor
points will be awarded.
Again near the top half of the map is a civilian, located in a
camp of tents and camels. Collect and return. Do not destroy
tents.
Quick Ladder is located near the coast. Destroy the arched
galvanise buildings and in one is found this useful object.
(Rough location on map is almost central amongst the two diamond
patterned roads).
An extra life can be found just up the road from the landing zone.
Blow up the building on the right angled corner of the road.
~Level Two.
Locate the prison camp and go just past it, you will find a
plane with the Co pilot Jake there, get Jake and blow up the
plane to get extra life. On the radar use hellfires as they
will go in just one hit, blow the prison and get the hostages
and drop them off to replenish armour. Use Hydras to blow the
power station and cannons to blow the power lines, you will find
a tool kit and fuel there so be careful not to blow it up. On
the chemical factory blow the three chemical tanks and then the
complex, shoot the AAA gun at the top to get to a ammo create
underneath.
~Level 3
Pick up the news team in the middle of the city but be careful
of the tank and snipers, take out all the radar sites as this
makes things a lot easier. Be careful with the seamen in the
boats that you do not destroy them yourself, draw away the boats
and then blast them . One of the crewmen will give you the
position of the power station . The ICBM'S are hidden under the
sand , locate them by radar then fire your cannon at sand ,it
will make a different sound if it hits one , hit it with every
thing you have when doors open. Get the ambassador, to liberate
the embassy ,blow the gate in front of the bus and follow the
bus and protect it , it will stop if you fly over it , follow it
to the plane and then go on to the final level.
~Level Four
To seal the oil pipes shoot your cannon at the end and when you
hit it right you will hear the sound change, blow buildings to
find goodies, blow all the tanks ,when the plane is moving get
your copilot of the wing and let the plane have all you have got
if it has all gone to plan, sit back for medals.
