  1. Statistics Help File (STATS1.HLP)

  4. This file is a Microsoft Windows Help file designed to 
  5. work with version 3.1 of Windows.  It should also work 
  6. with later versions.  It can be operated from a floppy
  7. disk or a hard disk in one of the ways given under 
  8. a. INTALLATION below.

  10. It was written by Dr. John Fry and Miss. Rebecca Playle

  23. USING THE HELP FILE
  24.  
  25. a.  INSTALLATION
  26.  
  27. ***** Make a copy of the file before use! *********

  29. Ways of using the file after loading windows.
  30.  
  31. 1.  Double click on the filename in the File Manager
  32.     window.
  33.  
  34. 2.  Select an appropriate Program Group in Program Manager.
  35.     Click the title bar of that group.  Click the File and 
  36.     then Properties commands from the Menu bar. Type the 
  37.     following into the dialog box lines as follows:
  38.          Description:        Statistics Help
  39.          Command Line:       c:\utils\stats1.hlp
  40.          Working Directory:  c:\utils
  41.     N.B.  This assumes the File is in the a subdirectory
  42.     called UTILS on drive C:.
  43.     Then click the OK box.  You can then run the program by
  44.     double-clicking on the ? Statitics Help icon that appears
  45.     in the Program group selected.

  47. 3.  Click on or create a program item (see 2. above) for the
  48.     WINHELP.EXE file, that is in your Windows directory.  
  49.     Using the File/Open command from the menu bar of Winhelp 
  50.     you can run STATS1.HLP or any other Windows Help file 
  51.     (they all have the extension .hlp).

  53. B. GENERAL INFORMATION
  54.  
  55. This file works like an ordinary Windows Help file.  Intructions 
  56. for use will be found by clicking BEGINNERS in the first screen.
  57. A list of Contents is found by clicking CONTENTS in the first 
  58. screen.  Detailed Help on using Help files is found by clicking 
  59. Help on the Menu bar while running the file.  Basically, you 
  60. move from place to place in the file by clicking the green 
  61. underlined text or the 3-D buttons with words like DETAILS, 
  62. CONTINUE, FINISHED etc.  A small hand shaped icon appears over
  63. these active jump switches when the mouse pointer is moved over
  64. them.

  66. The Help file covers topics in Oneway and factorial analysis of 
  67. variance, and bivariate and multiple regression.
  68.  
  69. WARNING:  This is not a perfect product, as there are a few minor
  70. errors in it.  There are also a few jumps that do not lead 
  71. anywhere.  However, the Help file should still be very useful.
  72.  
  73. If you like the style of the Help file then more detail of these
  74. and other statistics can be found in the following book.  This book 
  75. uses the same style of approach and my students have found it very 
  76. useful.

  84. with the paperback, although they are available free from the 
  85. publisher.  For convienience I enclose them on this disk in the 
  86. subdirectory called BOOKFILE.]
