SHAREWARE DESCRIPTION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SIMSTAT and its related programs are NOT public domain or
freeware! The SIMSTAT package is a copyrighted software product
developed and owned by Normand Peladeau.
SIMSTAT is distributed as shareware. As such, individuals may
evaluate the SIMSTAT package for a maximum period of 30 days. At
the end of the evaluation period, if you find SIMSTAT to be a
useful tool and wish to continue using it, you must register your
copy with the author, Normand Peladeau.
Registration entitles you to a copy of the current version of
SIMSTAT and a free copy of the next version when it becomes
available. This copy will be mailed to you as soon as it is
released. Registered use also receive a printed and bounded
manual and a minimum of 90 days of free support (by mail and
via CompuServe).
Registered users who have already received their upgrade of
SIMSTAT may order the next version by paying a minimal fee.
To register your copy of SIMSTAT, fill out the order form
included in the distribution archive (the file called ORDER.FRM)
and mail it with payment to the address specified on the form.
NOTE TO PREVIOUS USERS OF SIMSTAT
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Important changes has been made to version 3.5e of SIMSTAT in the
writing and reading of temporary files in order to eliminate some
problems with network installation of SIMSTAT. If you are installing
SIMSTAT on a previous version, you may encouter problem running
SIMSTAT addins released before 7/95. If you encouter such problems,
you may either remove the TEMP environment variable in your
autoexec.bat file or prevent SIMSTAT from using this directory
for storage of temporary files. To do this, simply set a SIMSTAT
environment variable with a NOTEMP parameter.
SET SIMSTAT=NOTEMP
You may put this DOS command in the autoexec.bat file or in a batch
file used to call SIMSTAT.

INPUT AND OUTPUT
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The data may be read directly from a dBase file (version III or IV),
a LOTUS 1-2-3 file, an SPSS/PC+ or SPSS for Windows system file or from
an ASCII data file.
The output can be read on the screen, save on disk in a listing
file, and/or send directly to the printer.
CAPABILITY
~~~~~~~~~~
The program can handle up to 500 variables and 32,000 cases. The
simulation can contain between 50 and 20,000 subsampling. These
limitations are the absolute maximums and can be somewhat lower
depending on the amount of memory available.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SIMSTAT will run on any IBM PC/XT, AT, PS/2 and compatible under
MS-DOS/PC-DOS version 3.0 or higher. A minimum of 500K of free RAM is
necessary.
The program does not need a numeric coprocessor but will use it
if available. A coprocessor is highly recommended for extensive
bootstrap simulation or computation on large samples.
NOTE
~~~~
SIMSTAT is packaged using Info-ZIP's compression utility.
The installation program uses UnZip to read zip files. Info-ZIP's
software (Zip, UnZip and related utilities) is free and can be
obtained as source code or executables from various bulletin board
services and anonymous-ftp sites, including CompuServe's IBMPRO
forum and ftp.uu.net:/pub/archiving/zip/*.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The BANNER v1.0 addin program enables you to produce presentation
quality tables and stub-&-banners. It can display crosstabulation
and descriptive statistics of data including multiple response data.
BANNER v1.0 also allows you to customize their final appearance by
providing complete control over on the width, the spacing, and the
line-drawing.
and the item-total correlation for correct and alternate responses.
It also provides endorsement rates for various achievement levels
and descriptive statistics on the total score including the mean,
median, minimum, maximum, variance, skewness, kurtosis, etc., as
well as Cronbach's alpha internal consistency and Ferguson's
discrimination index. Descriptive statistics are also computed
on percent correct and item-total correlations.
STATITEM v1.0 is available to registered users of SIMSTAT for
$35.00 only (plus $5 for shipping and handling if ordered
separately - See ORDER.FRM).
NLREG -- Nonlinear Regression Program
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you like SIMSTAT but need need a powerful nonlinear regression
program that can perform statistical regression with general equations,
I suggest you try the NLREG program written by Phillip H. Sherrod.
NLREG is a powerful nonlinear regression program that can fit a
general equation, whose form you specify using normal algebraic
notation, to a set of data values. The fitted equation can include
polynomial, exponential, log, square root, and transcendental
functions including trigonometric, Bessel, Chebyshev polynomials.
The fitted function may even be piecewise continuous.
NLREG can be used as a stand-along program or invoked as an "add-in"
from SIMSTAT using the SIM2NL utility program. The shareware version
of NLREG is available from many BBS or you can contact the author at
the address below. NLREG version 2.2 or later is required for use
with SIMSTAT.
For information about NLREG, contact: Phillip H. Sherrod, 4410

MVSP - Multivariate statistical program
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MVSP is a program for the IBM-PC and compatibles that performs a
variety of ordination and cluster analyses. It provides an
inexpensive yet easy means of analysing your data in fields
ranging from ecology and geology to sociology and market
research. MVSP is in use at hundreds of sites in over 50
countries. The results of analyses using MVSP have been
published in numerous journals, including Science, Nature,
Ecology, Journal of Petroleum Geology, and Journal of
Biogeography.
MVSP performs several types of eigenanalysis ordinations:
principal components (PCA), principal coordinates (PCO), and
correspondence/detrended correspondence analyses (CA/DCA). It
can also perform cluster analysis, using nineteen different
distance or similarity measures and seven clustering strategies.
Diversity indices may be calculated on ecological data; these
include Simpson's, Shannon's, and Brillouin's indices. Data
matrices up to 750x750 may be analysed.
Once your data have been analysed you can plot the results
directly. Select the ordination axes you want to see and
scattergrams will be drawn. Dendrograms of the cluster analysis
results are produce automatically. These graphs can then be
printed on a variety of output devices.
MVSP can be used as a stand-along program or invoked as an "add-in"
from SIMSTAT using the SIM2MVSP utility program. The shareware
version of MVSP is available from many BBS or you can contact the
author at the address below. MVSP version 2.2 or later is required
for use with SIMSTAT.
MVSP can be purchased from Provalis Research or directly from
Warren L. Kovach, Kovach Computing Services, 85 Nant-y-Felin,
Pentraeth, Anglesey, LL75 8UY Wales, UK. CompuServe: [100016,2265],
Internet: info@kovcomp.demon.co.uk.
MVSP v2.2 is available for $100 (plus shipping & handling). You
may also order a bundle version of SIMSTAT and MVSP at a reduced
price of $149.
