  13. Ruthenium is useful in hardening platinum and palladium as an alloy. Silver-
  14. gray ruthenium looks like platinum but is harder, more brittle, and rarer. 
  15. Ruthenium is found among the fission outputs of uranium and plutonium in 
  16. nuclear reactors. Ruthenium has four allotropic forms. The metal doesn't 
  17. tarnish in air at normal temperatures and resists attack to many strong acids.
