SPECTRUM V 2.1
Dear SPECTRUM V 2.1 user,
Please find enclosed a copy of SPECTRUM V 2.1. The diskette should contain,
in addition to this file, a self-extracting file called SPEC21.EXE and a
batch file INSTALL.BAT. Simply enter the following command line from the
floppy drive containing the diskette:
INSTALL <drive : path>
where <drive : path> is the location on the hard disk where the files are
to be stored.
The following files will be placed in the directory specified by the
user :

SPEC2 PS 195601 06-29-94 9:32a Postscript 19-page V 2.0 update
These files include a 73-page manual describing version 1.0 of SPECTRUM and a
19-page update release for version 2.0 which describes the improvements that
have been added to the routine. This documentation is enclosed both as
ASCII files and as Postscript files. Unfortunately, the equations and graphs
do not survive the ASCII conversion process and do not appear in the ASCII
documentation files. The Postscript files contain the full documentation
and are to be preferred over the ASCII files. One must, however, have a
printer capable of printing in Postscript mode. If such a printer is
available, then the user simply runs the batch files and follows the
directions. Note that the 73-page manual has been published as a NIST
report and is also available from NTIS:
Hess, D.E. 1991 Spectral Analysis on a PC, National Institute of Standards
and Technology, NISTIR 4733, NTIS PB-92-116342.
If a Postscript printer is not available, and the ASCII documentation will
not suffice, a limited number of hard copies of the documentation are
available until the supply runs out. A FREE copy may be obtained in this
instance by writing to the author at the address given below.
Note that version 2.1 of SPECTRUM is different from version 2.0 as follows:
1. The main routine incorporates a minor improvement suggested by a user.
2. The MAKDAT utility has been upgraded to accept parameters included on
the command line for use in batch mode processing. Instructions for
usage are included on page 1 of the MAKDAT.FOR source file.
3. Postscript versions of the documentation have been included.
This program was developed for use with the Compliant Surface Program
in the Fluid Flow Group; this group is a part of the Process Measurements
Division at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. With the
evolution of the SPECTRUM routine to its present form, the author felt that the
program may perhaps be of some utility to others. Therefore, SPECTRUM is being
released as freeware. This program, the source code and accompanying utilities
may be freely copied and distributed, but may not be sold. There is no
warranty of SPECTRUM's suitability for any purpose, nor any acceptance of
liability, express or implied.
This program has been subjected to extensive testing and appears to be free of
any bugs; however, it is possible that not all situations have been
anticipated. The author encourages any modifications to or customization of
the source code as required by the user, and welcomes any suggested
improvements or bug-fixes. Please direct all correspondence to the address
given below.
Sincerely yours,
Dr. David E. Hess
