  113.      Electrical Design Software is a New Hampshire based company 
  114. that was established in 1992.  Our organization's primary objective
  115. is to produce quality software, for the Electrical Industry, at a 
  116. reasonable price.

  118.      Unit Costing 1.0 requires no special computer knowledge, and
  119. is designed to accommodate both the amateur and professional user. 
  120. Context Sensitive Help Screens have been programmed into this
  121. application in order for you the, user, to continue working quickly
  122. and efficiently.

  124.      Most importantly, here at Electrical Design Software, YOUR 
  125. comments are considered essential, for the development of future
  126. software products.  With your input we can design programs that 
  127. will accommodate the electrical profession and other specialized 
  128. fields.

  131.             DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
  132.             ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  133.      Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  134. before buying it.  If you try a Shareware program and continue
  135. using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs differ
  136. on details -- some request registration while others require it, 
  137. some specify a maximum trial period.  With registration, you get 
  138. anything from the simple right to continue using the software to 
  139. an updated program with printed manual.

  141.      Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and Commercial 
  142. software, and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a 
  143. few specific exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are 
  144. accomplished programmers, just like commercial authors, and the
  145. programs are of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are 
  146. good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method
  147. of distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
  148. and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
  149. specific group. For example, some authors require written 
  150. permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
  151. Shareware.

  154. You should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
  155. whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
  156. fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.

  158. has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  159. product, you don't pay for it.

  161.      Unit Costing 1.0 is a "Shareware Program" and is provided at
  162. no charge to the user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with 
  163. your friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part 
  164. of another system.  The essence of "user-supported" software is 
  165. to provide personal computer users with quality software without
  166. high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to 
  167. continue to develop new products.

  175. If you find this program useful and find that you are using Unit
  176. Costing 1.0 and continue to use Unit Costing 1.0 after a reasonable 
  177. trial period, you must make a registration payment of *$20.00 to
  178. Electrical Design Software.  The *$20.00 registration fee will
  179. license one copy for use on any one computer at any one time.

  181. You must treat this software just like a book. An example is that
  182. this software may be used by any number of people and may be freely
  183. moved from one computer location to another, so long as there is no
  184. possibility of it being used at one location while it's being used
  185. at another. Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons

  188.      Commercial users of Unit Costing 1.0 must register and pay for
  189. their copies of Unit Costing 1.0 within 30 days of first use or
  190. their license is withdrawn. Site-License arrangements may be made
  191. by contacting Electrical Design Software.

  193.      Anyone distributing Unit Costing 1.0 for any kind of
  194. remuneration must first contact Electrical Design Software at the
  195. address listed for authorization. This authorization will be
  196. automatically granted to distributors recognized by the (ASP) as
  197. adhering to its guidelines for shareware distributors, and such
  198. distributors may begin offering Unit Costing 1.0 immediately.

  236.             WHAT IS THE UNIT COSTING MODULE
  237.             ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  238. Electrical Design Software designed Version 1.0 to be a user
  239. friendly program that produces custom reports for any project that
  240. could be broken down into units. 
  241.  
  242. The original concept for unit costing is in the wiring of new
  243. homes. If you take a look at the sample report at the end of the
  244. documentation, each category has a description and it's unit cost. 
  245.  
  246. Then the contractor could simply do each project, count up the
  247. units after the rough and enter the quantities. This would produce
  248. a complete breakdown and total cost.

  253. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
  254.    * 300K memory
  255.    * IBM(R) PC/XT/AT or true "compatible" running MS-DOS or PC-DOS 
  256.      operating system version 3.0 or higher.
  257.    * One high-density floppy-disk drive or a hard disk drive (hard 
  258.      disk recommended)
  259.    * Use of mouse is optional

  262. GENERAL OVERVIEW:
  263.    * Context sensitive help screens through out the program. 
  264.    * Automatically adjust for a color or monochrome monitor.
  265.    * Scroll help screens with the mouse or use the arrow keys
  266.    * Drag Bars for help screens & the pop up calculator. You can  
  267.      move these around the screen with the mouse by putting the   
  268.      mouse on the top of the window and pressing the left mouse   
  269.      button and drag the window. This is convenient if you are    
  270.      using the calculator and you want to see a field behind it.  
  271.      The top left has an off icon.

  289.                    STARTING THE PROGRAM

  291. To Start the Main Program go to the directory that Unitcost.exe is
  292. in.   Type  "UNITCOST"  + press ENTER.

  297.           TAKING A SAMPLE RUN OF UNIT COSTING 1.0

  299.      First start unit costing by going to the directory containing
  300. the unit costing files. This may be the default directory
  301. "UNITCOST" or any other directory that you may have specified
  302. during installation. From that directory type UNITCOST then press
  303. enter. 
  304.  
  305.      This will load the program and present the opening screen.
  306. Press any key to access the main work screen.  Lets start by
  307. defining our own categories and cost. 
  308.  
  309. Press the Alt key to activate the main menu & select define screens
  310. one & two. From here you can enter any description & cost for each
  311. line. The field (% on rough) is to define how much the rough will
  312. cost this will be used to give the totals at the end of the report.
  313.  
  314. The % on finnish will automatically be entered when you select F7
  315. to save the screens.  When screen one is all set press F6 & define
  316. screen two. From here you may want to put your company name into
  317. the address screen. To do this press F5 to access the address
  318. screen, fill in the prepared by information. 
  319.  
  320. Pressing F7 will save the information for screens one, two & the
  321. address screen.  Now exit to the main menu and select estimate.
  322. Fill in the quantity for the project you want a report on. When all
  323. the relevant quantity fields are entered you can send the report to
  324. the printer by pressing F8 or to an ASCII file by pressing F9 it's
  325. that simple.

  361. UNIT COSTING 1.0 uses the following operating functions.

  363. 1.   ENTER or TAB  -  Advance forward.
  364. 2.   SHIFT + TAB   -  Move backwards.
  365. 3.   ALT           -  Activate the top Menu.
  366. 4.   ALT + HOT KEY -  Will menu item or command button.
  367. 5.   ESC           -  Move out of the program.
  368. 6.   Navigation    -  Up or down arrows keys.
  369. 7.   Mouse         -  Select any field or button.
  370. 8.   F1            -  Context Help.

  373.                    QUICK KEYS EXPLAINED

  375. F1 = Bring up a Context Sensitive Help Screen.
  376.  
  377. F2 = This will clear the current work screen for the next entry.
  378.  
  379. F3 = Switch between manual and automatic mode. The default is
  380. manual. To explain this better let me describe how this section of
  381. the program works. In MANUAL MODE an EVENT takes place every 1
  382. second period. This event is used to gather user input. When you
  383. press the F10 key you calculate the screen according to the
  384. information on the screen. The time it takes to preform this
  385. calculation depends on the speed of your computer. On some
  386. computers this may take a few seconds. Therefore, manual mode takes
  387. time to calculate only when the user says so. This will allow you
  388. to put the information in without being disrupted by the computer
  389. taking time to do the calc. In AUTOMATIC MODE an event takes place
  390. every two second period. If no user input has been entered for two
  391. seconds the program automatically goes to calc. This works GREAT on
  392. faster computers the screen continuously gets updated. Try both
  393. modes and see what is best for you.

  395. F4 = This will bring up a pop up calculator that can add, subtract,
  396. multiply, divide and do percent. With the mouse you can move the
  397. calculator around. Place the mouse cursor on the top of the
  398. calculator press the left mouse button and drag to a new screen
  399. location.

  401.   * / for divide
  402.   * * for multiply
  403.   * - for subtract
  404.   * + for addition
  405.   * c  to clear
  406.   * x  to insert last answer
  407.   * p  to place answer in a window in the center of the screen.
  408. To remove the calculator hit ESC or click the off icon on the top
  409. left of the calculator.

  411. F5 = This is the address screen.  Pressing F5 will bring up the
  412. address screen. Information in this screen is used for reports.  
  413.  
  414. F6 = When you are at the address screen press F6 to get back to the
  415. previous screen.

  420. F7 = This function is available only from the setup screen it will 
  421. save the screens one, two, and the address screen.

  423. F8 = Send your report to the printer. Supports port LPT1.
  424.  
  425. F9 = Send your report to a file. This will be an ASCII file that
  426. you can use with your favorite word processor. When you press F9
  427. you will be asked for a file name. If you enter an illegal file
  428. name a window will pop up to help you. The report that goes into a
  429. file is fairly WIDE. When you bring this file into your word
  430. processor make sure the right and left margins are set wide enough
  431. to accept this format.

  438. The help system is a Context Help System.  Pressing the F1 key on
  439. any field will bring up context help.

  442.                       THE FIELD FORM

  444. The Unit costing program is a convenient way to produce a breakdown
  445. or estimate for any project that can be broken down into it's unit
  446. parts. The information that is defined in the setup section will be
  447. what is printed on the field form.

  467. the rough field the finnish field will automatically be adjusted
  468. when F7 is pressed.
