What is BULBS? (overview)
------------
BULBS was written to help determine the proper voltage size of the bulbs
in the mini bulbs strings used for Xmas lights and other mini bulb assemblies.
My wife happens to have a mini bulb string for just about every holiday there
is and with having so many bulb strings it was hard to keep track of what volt
bulb went into what string. With BULBS you can find the proper voltage bulb
for your mini string.
Features
--------
*Fast and easy to use
*Easy to understand
*Allows you to find the proper volt bulb for most mini bulb strings
*Written in Borland Turbo C++
System Requirements
-------------------
Any IBM PC/AT/XT or compatible computer. BULBS was programmed on a 486DX, it
has not been tested on a CPU lower than a 386SX. This program uses no
proprietary calls and should run on any machine.
Installation
------------
Just unzip the archive into it's own directory. I use a directory called BULBS
but you can use any directory you want. No special setup requirements are
needed.
If you received BULBS from a bulletin board, you should have the following
files:
BULBS.EXE -- BULBS Program File
BULBS.DOC -- This Documentation File
REGISTER.FRM -- BULBS Registration Form
FILE_ID.DIZ -- File description
How does BULBS work? (Operation)
--------------------
This is a very simple program to use, probably the simplest around. To enter
the program type "BULBS" and you will be prompted to enter the total number of
bulbs on your bulb string. After entering the number of bulbs, hit enter and
the voltage of each bulb will be displayed to you.
Typing <Q> at anytime will "QUIT" you out of the program.
Is BULBS free?
--------------
No. BULBS is not free. It is not public domain. It is being distributed
under a marketing concept called shareware.
What is Shareware?
------------------
Shareware is a unique marketing concept whereby you get to try software out
before you pay for it. Many shareware software packages exist, duplicating
most of the commercially available packages in functionality and quality.
Shareware is often much less expensive, because shareware authors don't have
the overhead that commercial software concerns have.
Basically, once you have acquired a shareware package, you try it out and see
if you like it. If you do, you send a requested registration fee to the
authors. This fee usually entitles you to certain additional considerations,
which vary from author to author. If you do not wish to continue using the
software, you do not need to register it. You should, however, stop using it
if you do not register it. Regardless, the software should be passed along to
as many friends as possible, because this distribution is what makes shareware
work.
How do I register BULBS?
------------------------
I'm glad you asked. You can register BULBS by sending a check, money order or
cash for $2.00 to:
Paul Graydon
P.O. Box 21057
Castro Valley, Ca 94546-9057
The file REGISTER.FRM contains a form to assist you in the registration
process. To print it out, simply issue the following command at the DOS
prompt:
COPY REGISTER.FRM PRN:
or
PRINT REGISTER.FRM
(These are the most common ways of printing in DOS)
What are the registration benefits?
-----------------------------------
When you register BULBS, you will receive registration key file that will
register your copy of BULBS.
Registration will eliminate all delays & the annoying "UNREGISTERED" messages.
Being a registered owner of BULBS entitles you to free upgrades as they become
available. The bonus is that you will have a clear conscious knowing that you
are supporting the shareware concept.
Don't these files usually have some kind of disclaimer?
-------------------------------------------------------
You bet. There was the generic one at the beginning of these doc's and here's
my personal one:
I am not responsible for anything. Nothing. Zilch. If you are a registered
owner, my warranty extends only to the physical media I distribute my
products on. Unfortunately, you use my products at your risk, not mine.
AND, I also have the right to make any changes as I see fit.
Having said all that, I would like to point out that I have tested BULBS to the
best of my ability. I don't like to make blanket statements eliminating any
responsibility I might have, but this is a crazy world where the number one
corporate sport seems to be the law suit, and I'd love to avoid all of that.
Finally, I will say that if you find a bug in BULBS, report it me and I'll fix
it.
