The austenitic stainless steels are finding increased use for
structural applications. This is due in large part to the inherent
corrosion resistance in the present day environment which, in turn,
means reduced maintenance cost and continued good appearance for
the life of the structure.
ASTM A 666 "Austenitic Stainless Steel Sheet, Strip, Plate and Flat
Bar for Structural Applications" defines the properties of annealed
and cold-rolled stainless steel as applied to load carrying
structures. Also the 1991 publication ANSI/ASCE-8-90
"Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Stainless Steel
Structure Members" presents current design parameters for the use
of stainless steel in structural applications.
