The program provided is not guaranteed as to merchantability or
fitness for its ultimate use. The user accepts all responsibility
for use and may not resell the program. TOOLING SOLUTIONS requires
that the user has a working knowledge of the tool and die industry.
Drawing, forming, ironing, blanking, and other pressworking operations
are not an exact science. The programs are designed to aid in the
development of sheet metal tooling by experienced tool engineers.
OVERVIEW OF TOOLING SOLUTIONS
-----------------------------
TOOLING SOLUTIONS is a menu driven program written by a die designer
for die designers, tool engineers, and estimators. Version 1.0 is
the first release. If enough people register this program, it will
give me the incentive to continue writing quality programs for the
Tooling Industry. Several additions to the 66 plus programs are
scheduled to be written. So, please register.
With the availability of personal computers at an unprecedented high,
I felt that it was ridiculous to thumb through manuals and handbooks
to find the correct formulae for complex equations regarding the
pressworking of sheet metal. Even after the correct formula was found
for a particular situation, the chances of error were great. What was
more frustrating to me as a designer, was to run calculations for the
same problem using two different formulas only to find they differed
by as much as 200%. I tried a couple of bend allowance programs that
were advertised in trade journals. Much to my amaze, they would allow
you to input any numbers regardless of how impossible it could be!
Whats worse, is that they gave you an answer! Tsk.. Tsk.., no error
checking. These programs sold for as much as $30 just for bend
allowance. (their theory only)
TOOLING SOLUTIONS goal is to provide as much information on tooling
in computer software. Whenever possible, this software will warn you
when you enter an invalid number. Alot of programming time has been
devoted to this. Go ahead and try to enter numbers you know won't
work. Get the picture? It is also my intent to provide this
software at the lowest cost possible. With more tooling going
overseas, I would like to see the US in a more competitive stance.
What started out as writing a program to calculate the flat blank of
a drawn shell, has grown to over 70 programs, 10 meg. of files, a
database of over 1200+ tool steels (types, suppliers, composition,
and tradenames), and informative charts all at your fingertips.
Accuracy is also the main goal with TOOLING SOLUTIONS. For instance
bend allowance. Most everyone has a bend allowance program. But
TOOLING SOLUTIONS has carried this steps further. The bend allowance
program with TOOLING SOLUTIONS calculates the bend in:
Joggles
Curls
Extrusions
Blank & Flange
Material in welded tubing
90 deg. Wipe bending with pressure pad
"U" type bending (bending 2 opposing sides)
"V" type bending
Rotary bending
In each of these cases, the material undergoes different changes.
In addition to these types of bends, you may calculate the bend
allowance and setback using the Neutral Axis theory or Delta-K.
The material thickness divided by a value is also supported
(T/2, T/3, T/4, T/5). With the delta-k method, you may make test
bends and save the results into a database. This will enable you to
build a highly accurate history to take the guess work out of bending!
I could write 20+ pages on what TOOLING SOLUTIONS can perform.
So to save your time and paper I won't. Please use the next 15 days
to test drive TOOLING SOLUTIONS and see how it can improve your
performance. After which, please contact me with your comments and
suggestions. And don't forget to register! The annoying reminder
will be gone with the registered version.

REGISTRATION
------------
TOOLING SOLUTIONS is a user supported shareware program. For more
information, or to register TOOLING SOLUTIONS, please refer to the
ORDER.DOC for more information. By registering, you encourage the
author to continue writing tooling related software.
INSTALLATION INTRODUCTION
-------------------------
TOOLING SOLUTIONS is normally delivered on four 3 1/2" 1.44M
diskettes. The shareware version is delivered in 4 files named:
TSA_A.ZIP
TSA_B.ZIP
TSA_C.ZIP
TSA_D.ZIP
INSTALLATION
============
1. Make sure the Disk Operating System (DOS) has been loaded
into your system and you are at C:> (system prompt).
2. At the C:\> (system prompt) type:
INSTALL.BAT
The default directory is C:\toolsol\
If you want to install TOOLING SOLUTIONS to a different directory,
Type:
INSTALL c:\toolsol (the directory of your choice)
All you have to do to run TOOLING SOLUTIONS after it has been
installed on your hard drive and is in the path, type:
TOOLSOL <Enter>
Although TOOLING SOLUTIONS is not copy protected, you may make copies
for archive purposes only. The purchase of one copy does not
authorize you to install TOOLING SOLUTIONS on more than one machine
or on a network.
P.S. The Shareware (Test Drive, 15 day trial version) of
TOOLING SOLUTIONS will do everything the registered program will
do. Feel free to share ONLY the shareware version with friends
and potential users of TOOLING SOLUTIONS for 15 day trail and
evaluation purposes only. You may not use the shareware version
on other machines in order to avoid purchasing additional copies
of the full program. You may NOT give away any copies or make
more than one copy of the fully operational program for other
than archival purposes.
Troubleshooting
===============
IBM type EGA (enhanced graphic), and VGA (video graphic array)
adapters are required to work with TOOLING SOLUTIONS.
If you are using a compatible color video card with a green or amber
screen, or LCD monitor, you may need to adjust your brightness and
contrast, or Install other "colors" from the color menu selection.
Sometimes executing the DOS "MODE BW80" command works.
Some "autoswitch" Enhanced Graphic Adapters and "Hercules" type
mono-graphics cards may need to have their auto modes disabled
for proper operation.
If TOOLING SOLUTIONS will not run, you may have insufficient
memory, or too many memory resident programs. Try running
TOOLING SOLUTIONS with no memory resident programs.
Occasionally, certain memory resident, TSR, or "pop-up" programs
conflict with TOOLING SOLUTIONS. In general, there is no problem,
but there are many new programs being written without regard to
the system requirements of TOOLING SOLUTIONS. Remove them from
memory, and try again. If that fails, try getting rid of device
drivers in your CONFIG.SYS file. ANSI.SYS is a prime suspect for
some not-so-compatibles.
If, after exiting TOOLING SOLUTIONS, your sytem "hangs", disable the
CLOCK feature. You can do this by deleting the following lines
in TOOLSOL.BAT:
mark toolsol >nul
library clock >nul
release toolsol /s cls
You may also delete these lines to free more RAM while running
TOOLING SOLUTIONS. This just disables the Clock feature.
To save on disk space, most programs are compiled to require the
use of the file: BRUN45.EXE. This file must be in path of most
all programs. If not, the message: INPUT RUN-TIME MODULE PATH:
will appear. If this happens, press CTRL-C. That is, hold down
the <Ctrl> and press the letter <C>. Then make sure this file is
in the path of all TOOLING SOLUTIONS *.EXE files.
