On this release of E.T.O., we’ve included three different releases of ResEdit™. The first, ResEdit 1.2, is a final release, with few known bugs. Yes, ResEdit actually did go final.
ResEdit 1.2 is the APDA release, a final version with few bugs. Use version 1.2 if you are squeamish about using beta software.
The second release, ResEdit 2.0b2, is a beta release, known to have some bugs still lurking within. But this newer release has some new features that you may not be able to live without, once you see them. It adds a new user-interface, new editors (MENU, cicn, BNDL/FREF), new templates, and a new about box.
The third release, ResEdit 2.1b5, is also a beta release, known to have some bugs still lurking within. But this newest release has more new features that you may not be able to live without, once you see them. It adds a new DITL/ALRT/DLOG editor, replacements for the bit editors (ICON, ICN#, finder family, PAT, PAT#, etc.).

ABOUT THE PRE-RELEASE VERSION
We recommend the newer version, especially for editing resources in System 7 applications. There are known bugs in ResEdit 2.0b2 and ResEdit 2.1b5, so caution should be taken, as always when editing files, and work on backups.
ResEdit 2.0b2 and ResEdit 2.1b5 are stable releases, and have been released to developers in the System 7.0 alpha pre-release. ResEdit 2.0b2 is available from APDA now, and ResEdit 2.1 final will be made available through APDA early next year.
CAUTION USING THE PRE-RELEASE VERSIONS
With ResEdit 2.0b2, developers should beware of opening a System 7.0 system file while running System 6.0 or previous systems. To edit a system file, boot with System 7.0 and then run ResEdit. This problem DOES NOT EXIST in ResEdit 2.1b5.
IN THE FUTURE
Development continues on ResEdit, and new features are being rolled into the 2.1 release. After that release, work on 2.2 will begin.
