This CD is a "Geography Matters" tour.  It gives you everything you need to get started with computer mapping including ArcExplorer (TM) mapping software with tutorial. Other parts of the "Geography Matters" tour tell you about geographic information system (GIS) software, explain how GIS is used in business and elsewhere, and introduce ESRI and ESRI (TM) software.

  6. This CD is used with Windows 95/98 or Windows NT 4.0.

  8. Getting Started
  9. ------- -------
  10. If Autorun is enabled on your system, the  "Geography Matters" tour will start automatically when you insert the CD.  If Autorun is disabled, you can start the tour by double clicking on the file ESRI.EXE at the top level of the CD file system.

  12. System Requirements

  14. This CD provides the best viewing experience on this configuration
  15. - 6x CD drive or greater
  16. - Display supporting thousands of colors or greater
  17. - Pentium CPU
  18. - 32 MB memory or greater
  19. - Sound card and speakers
  20.

The CD may work well on machines of lesser configuration. However, when played on a lesser configuration certain content, video in particular, may not play at best quality due to bandwidth limits.  If you have a 4 gig or higher hard drive, you may recieve an error message.  This should not effect the viewing of the CD content.

  23. Multimedia Software

Parts of the  "Geography Matters" tour are viewed with other applications.  An internet browser is needed to view HTML documents on this CD or to browse external internet URLs.  Acrobat 3.01 is required for the viewing of PDF brochures and QuickTime 3.0 for the viewing of the ESRI Virtual Tour.

  28. This CD supplies the software needed to view these content types. Acrobat Reader 3.01 and QuickTime 3.0 are required; earlier versions will not work.

  30. In addition, the CD offers video demonstrations of ESRI software. These  videos should not require any software installation on your computer.

  32. Web Browser Software

This CD will use whatever Web browser is already installed on your system. The CD will work best with Internet Explorer 4.0+ or Netscape Navigator 3.0+. The Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 SP1 install package is included on this CD as a courtesy in case you do not already have a Web browser installed.

  37. It is NOT required to install this version of Internet Explorer.  If your system is already using a customized version of Internet Explorer, such as provided by an ISP, you should DEFINITELY NOT install this version of Internet Explorer, as it will overwrite your existing settings.

  39. Multimedia Software on this CD

  42. This CD provides all Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 software needed to take the "Geography Matters" tour.  You may install any or all of the supplied software as needed on your computer. This software is located in the VIEWSW directory and consists of the following installation executables:

  44. IE401_SP1\EN\IECD.EXE - Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01a SP1 suitable for use on Windows 95/98 and Windows NT 4.0.  Install Internet Explorer by executing this file.

  46. AR32E301.EXE - Adobe Reader Version 3.0.1 stand alone application and Web browser plug-in suitable for use on 32-bit Windows machines. Use this version or later for the best "Geography Matters" tour experience. Install Acrobat Reader software by executing this file.

  48. TU4t1BPYQEQ.EXE - Apple QuickTime 3.0, including stand-alone movie player and Web browser plug-in suitable for use on Windows 95/98 and Windows NT 4.0. Install QuickTime 3.0 software by executing this file.

  50. Installation Notes

  53. 1. Close any running Web browser before installing the multimedia software. Install the Internet Explorer, QuickTime, and Acrobat Reader software as required on your system.

  55. 2. If your ISP provides a specialized Internet Explorer that you are currently using, DO NOT install the Internet Explorer software provided on this CD. Installing the Internet Explorer version on this CD will overwrite and disable any special settings your ISP may have provided.

  57. 3. Installing Internet Explorer will restart Windows.

  59. ArcExplorer Installation
  60. ----------- ------------

  62. We recommend you install ArcExplorer by using the "Geography Matters" tour.  However, should you wish to install ArcExplorer directly, you can by executing this command at the command line: 
  63. RUN <CD-drive>:\VIEWSW\AECLIENT.EXE, where <CD-drive> is the drive letter for your CD, for example:

  65. RUN D:\VIEWSW\AECLIENT.EXE

  67. Internet Connection

  70. Both the multimedia content and the ArcExplorer application can use an Internet connection if one exists. An Internet connection will enhance your use of this CD, but it is not required.
