486/25 MHz processor, hard drive with 1 MB free disk space, 4
MB RAM, SVGA video adapter (640x480 256 or more colors),
CD-ROM drive with 150 KB per second transfer rate,
sound card (Sound Blaster compatible), DOS 5.0 or greater, Windows
3.1.
Understanding QuickTime(TM) Video
IntelliMedia titles use a lot of QuickTime For Windows(TM) motion
video to illustrate the skills you need to become a better player.
Although QuickTime will run on the computers described above, the
best video quality requires a more powerful processor.
IntelliMedia video is stored on the CD for display at 15 frames
per second. QuickTime compensates for slower computers by
decreasing the frame rate to fewer frames per second. This may
result in a picture that appears jerky.
For the best quality video, we recommend the following:
486DX/33 MHz processor, hard drive with 1 MB free disk space, 8
MB RAM, accelerated local bus video adapter with thousands or
millions of colors, CD-ROM drive with 300KB per second transfer
rate, DOS 6.2 or greater
INSTALLATION
To install this IntelliMedia program on your MPC computer:
1. Place the IntelliMedia disc in your CD-ROM drive.
2. From the Microsoft Windows Program Manager, select the FILE
menu.
3. From the FILE menu, select RUN.
4. Type the drive letter for your CD-ROM drive followed by SETUP.
For example, if your CD-ROM is drive D:, you would type:
D:\SETUP
Then click OK.
5. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to complete
the installation process.
The installation program will create a Windows program group
called IntelliMedia and place an icon in this group for this
IntelliMedia product. If you purchase other IntelliMedia products
in the future, they will be installed in this same group.
Once the product has been installed successfully on your hard
disk, you must exit Windows and reboot your computer before you
attempt to run the title. To reboot, turn off your computer, turn
it back on again, and restart Windows.
After rebooting your computer and restarting Windows, you may run
your title. First, make sure the CD for the program is in your
CD-ROM drive. Then, from the Windows Program Manager, double-
click the programs icon with your mouse. The program will start,
and the main menu screen for this IntelliMedia product will
appear.
YOUR WINDOWS SETUP
Because IntelliMedia titles use the capabilities of Windows and
your MPC computer to their fullest, it's important that you read
and implement all directions for:
Optimizing Windows in the Microsoft Windows manual.
Optimizing your System in the Microsoft DOS manual.
The documentation for your VGA graphics adapter.
Pay special attention to the sections on memory and SMARTDRV. If
Windows has insufficient memory or SMARTDRV is not used, you may
find that video breaks up (or pauses periodically) while playing.
Also be sure that Windows Setup is using the appropriate video
driver for your VGA adapter. The Windows screen display mode for
which your computer and monitor are set determines the quality of
the full-motion video images displayed in this program. Unless you
are a very experienced computer user or might have had a reason to
specifically configure your Windows display, the chances are your
system is still configured in a default mode. For many systems,
this means 640 x 480 x 256 mode, which means the screen is 640
pixels wide and 480 pixels tall, with 256 different colors.
You can get much better full-motion video results with a screen
driver that permits the display of thousands of different colors.
To do this, your computer s graphics card must have 1 MB of memory
and you must install a Windows screen driver that supports this
mode.
To see your current graphics card configuration:
1. From the Windows Program Manager, select the Windows Setup
icon.
2. In the Windows Setup window, select Options.
3. Select Change System Settings.
The Change System Settings window shows you the name of your
currently installed screen driver. You should use the driver for
your video adapter that displays the highest number of colors
possible in 640-by-480 mode. If your driver is set for 256 colors, the video will look grainy. Settings of 65,000 colors and above should produce excellent video quality. Consult the documentation for Windows and your video adapter for more information. Note: Changing your video driver should not cause problems for any other Windows programs you use on your computer.
If your display driver is set for 16-bit video operation, a dialog
box with the following message will appear:
Your display driver is presently set for 16-bit video operation
(more than 256 colors). If you experience video problems with
this product while in this display mode, use the Windows setup to
change your video operation to 8-bit (256 colors). You may click
YES to proceed. If you click YES, the program startup will
continue. Clicking NO will return you to the program manager.
MAIN MENU
After the program has started, you will be presented with the Main
Menu. From the Main Menu you can explore seven IntelliMedia
programs. You also can look at the program's credits or exit the
program.
* To select a program from the Main Menu, position your mouse
over it and click on it. This will take you to a topics list
where you can learn more about your favorite sports.
* Click the Credits button to view a list of the people who
helped to bring you these IntelliMedia programs.
* Click on Exit to exit the "ESPN Championship Coaching Tips by
IntelliMedia" and return to the Finder on your Macintosh or the
Program Manager of your MPC.
VIDEO PLAYER
When you choose an program from the Main Menu, you will go to a
Video Player screen. The Video Player is made up of a video
window, program control buttons, and a topics list.
Exploring a topics list
* It's easy to choose a topic. Just position your mouse over it
and click on it. Each time you choose a topic , a status line
will appear on the screen to let you know where you are in the
list.

list. Click on the Next button to go to the next topic.
* To pause a video while it plays, single-click the Pause button.
To continue playing a video, press the Play button.
* To stop a video, press the Stop button.
* To go back to the Main Menu, press the Menu button.
The Slider Bar
Notice the slider bar located below the video window. This
feature allows you to move around freely within a video segment.
The slider bar itself represents the entire length of the video.
* To move forward or backward one frame, click on the step
buttons at either end of the slider bar.
* To go to a particular place in the video, use your mouse to
drag the slider icon to the exact place where you want to be.
Autopilot
Autopilot is a special feature that allows you to explore the
content without having to select items one at a time.
* When you click the Autopilot button (the one with the airplane
symbol), the program will play through the end of the list.
* You can use all the program control buttons and the slider bar
when in Autopilot mode. They work the same way as they do
when exploring topics one at a time.
* To stop the Autopilot button function, press the Stop button.
