  1. What is DeskTools?
  2.  
  3. DeskTools is a PIM, a Personal Information Manager. It has similar features as 
  4. the commercial packages but with a much smaller price. DeskTools is a shareware 
  5. program with a fee of US $35. DeskTools offers the following features:

  8.     * Telephone directory lists
  9.         * Unlimited number of records
  10.         * Three phone numbers per record
  11.         * Home and business address
  12.         * Dial out capabilities
  13.         * Print mailing labels of any size
  14.         * Print envelopes of any size
  15.         * Print rolodex cards
  16.         * Print telephone directory in compact and expanded format
  17.         * Sort telephone records by first name, last name and company
  18.         * Import text files
  19.         * Export lists to text or database format
  20.         * Merge two existing lists
  21.     * Reminder lists
  22.         * Unlimited number of records
  23.         * Recurring events in calendars
  24.         * Daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly calendars
  25.         * Prioritized to-do list
  26.         * Print calendars in different formats
  27.         * Alarms
  28.         * Color coded days in monthly calendars
  29.     * Glossary Lists
  30.         * Unlimited number of records
  31.         * Store chunk of text up to 4K in each record

  42. Installation notes.
  43.  
  44. The archive comes with a program called setup.exe which will install DeskTools 
  45. for you in the following manner. Double-click on setup.exe. It will create a 
  46. sub directory called DESKTOOL, it will then copy the files desktool.exe, 
  47. desktool.hlp, readme.txt, and order.txt in this sub directory. It will then create a 
  48. program group called DeskTools 1.0 and within this group it will create items 
  49. for the files desktool.exe, desktool.hlp, readme.txt and order.txt. 
  50. The setup.exe program will also copy two additional files into your 
  51. windows/system sub directory.
  52. These files are c4dll.dll (database routines) and ctl3d.dll (3D control 
  53. routines). After setup finishes installing DeskTools you can safely delete 
  54. all files in the archive.

  56. If you wish to install DeskTools manually, keep in mind that the only important 
  57. files are the following:

  59.     c4dll.dll    database routines
  60.     ctl3d.dll    3D control routines
  61.     desktool.exe    latest version of DeskTool
  62.     desktool.hlp    on-line help document
  63.     readme.txt    this file
  64.     order.txt    order/registration form

  66. All other files are used by the setup program and can be deleted. The DLLs 
  67. should go to your windows/system sub directory. However, they can stay in the 
  68. same sub directory with the application.

  71. Additional Information.

  73. DeskTools is shareware. This means that you are entitled to use DeskTools free 
  74. for 30 days. After 30 days, you must either pay the registration fee ($35), or 
  75. delete the program from your hard disk. Thank you for supporting the shareware
