What's new in RoseMail 1.70: (See also SETUP.170).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Added sysop option to set the maximum space that a work directory
can use. Make sure you check this option as setting it too low
can cause user scan problems.
- The 'File paths' menu of RM (all except the editors) can now accept
%environment% to indicate the inclusion of an environment variable.
Examples: PCBoard.DAT file: '%PCBDAT%'
Work directory: '%PCBDRIVE%%PCBDIR%\WORK%PCBNODE%
- In User Flags, Conference Flags and Conference Ownership configuration
screens, the following commands have now been added:
CTRL-J - jumps to a given conference name
CTRL-C - clears the current flag (sets OFF) in a supplied range of
conferences (ie. works in the column that you are in)
CTRL-S - sets the current flag to ON in a supplied range of conferences
(ie. works in the column that you are in)
- RoseMail Inserts now use a smart 'set message pointers to high on insert'
unless the flag is specifically requested by the user. The major drawback
of the old flag is that messages could be missed, even if you do a download
scan immediately before your uploads. The new method makes sure that no
messages are skipped. The difference is especially noticable when there
is one user (or net sysop) who is responsible for most of the mail trafic
in a conference.
- Option to ignore the echo flag in RM xxx /I insertions (required to maintain
compatibility with some other qwk doors)
- Increased support for inserting qwk packets (via RM XXX /I) from Qmail
doors.
- Automatic checks on RDX files and auto-repair if required.
- RoseMail can now use the PCBoard 'Mail Waiting' flag so that the user
is informed that mail is waiting as soon as they log on. Must enable
this option in RM's 'option' menu.
- RoseMail transfer rates will now use the connect speed value in the
look up table which is immediately lower than or equal to the actual
connect rate.
- Corrected problem where RoseMail would not include the last bulletin
in a conference even if it has been updated.
- Improved dupe checking to eliminate possible messages with bounces
back to the message originator (ie. messages that came back to the system
where the message was first entered could be missed).
- DESQview awareness. No need to run RM or RoseMail with screen
vertulization anymore. RoseMail should now run faster under DV and
not bleed through to other windows. As well, RoseMail will be
slightly nicer to other nodes running on the same system, allowing them
all to run faster.
- Added conference option #14 to force all messages to have the echo
flag on when scanning message in RM or a net-sysop scanning messages
online in the door.
- Expanded network support. RoseMail now supports 64 networks
(instead of 16). 160 doors will 'auto adjust'.
- Fixed a problem that could create a 'Sharing violation' when doing
file uploads. This would normally only occur using DOS's SHARE and
not on most networks.
- Fixed some problems with LHA and file transfers.
- Network information. A simple information screen can be pulled up on
all of the internally know networks. Network hosts can supply up to
two screens (70*20) of text for display. Install NETWORK.DES in your
TEXT directory.
- Speed increase to door mail scans.
- Considerable speed increase in door conference selection.
- Slight speed increase to RM inserts (especially with board that have
several conferences).
- Added slight delay after downloads before reporting the status when the
PROMPT command has been previously executed. This should help some people
who have been having difficulties with RoseMail reporting status too
quickly after the download before the user has shelled back from external
transfer protocols.
- Fixed problem where including download file lists could cause a false
reaching of the SIZ limit.
- Improved response time for CTRL-K/CTRL-X scan aborts while scanning file
directories.
- Modified RoseMail time keeping routines. Now will allow users to make
use of time credits from uploads, sysop chats, confernece add time, etc.
that have been added while inside PCBoard.
- RoseMail will credit a user with the time used during a sysop chat (while
in RoseMail) so that the user effectively has the same time after chatting
with the sysop as he did initially.
- Fixed rare problem (very low probability) that could give users an extra
minute of time before kicking them off due to upcoming events. Wouldn't
cause seriuos problems if the event guard time was greater than one minute.
- Fixed problem where file list scans could crash when run in VERY low
memory situations.
- With the transfer protocol strings, you can now use a '%4' to have
RoseMail pass the connect speed (%1 is still the DTE which should be used
to determine the port speed). This can be used to have external protocols
estimate transfer times more accurately.
- Support for bi-directional transfer of mail packets. In the transfer
protocols, use a %5 in the download command to specify the directory
for the simultaneously uploaded packets.
eg. 'HSLINK -B%1 -P%2 -U%5'
Packets upload while performing a download will be noticed and
inserted.
The upload command line should be something like
'HSLINK -b%1 -P%2 -U%3'
Make sure that you also include the DSZLOG as the environment variable.
- Modified offline packet creation for netmail sysops. RoseMail will
automatically handle all the QWK packets created while offline and will
inform a user of the existence of the packet when they first enter the
RoseMail door. The first attempt to download with an existing offline
packet will send the pre-created packet immediately without the need
for scanning and compressing.
There are two ways of doing offline scans. The first one is simple but
is limiting in terms of what can be done while offline. The second
method allows you to do anything offline that can be done online but
requires a lot of setup and maintenance on the part of the sysop and
also runs slower. The board may be up or down while doing offline scans
but you should NEVER attempt to pack your USERS files while doing an
offline scan (especially with method A).
Method A: Set the minimum security level in 'Dupe checks/Prescans' as
desired. When set, the user can select online option #11
to indicate that the wish prescanning done for them.
To do the prescan itself, run 'ROMAIL /PRESCAN' or simply
'ROMAIL /P' (you must have a valid RMAIL.DAT in the current
directory, otherwise, use 'ROMAIL <RMAIL.DAT> /P' to specify
the name and location of the file.
The file PRESCAN.LOG in your offline directory will detail who
is using the prescan feature.
Method B: You can create a batch file to automatically create packets for
any desired users during an event or similar periodic event.
Batch file should contain the following three lines for each
user:
1> PCBOARD /USERSYS;First;Last;PWRD:password;TPA:ROSEMAIL
2> ROMAIL ;D;Y;G
3> PCBOARD
Line 1. will create a USERS.SYS file for the specific user
Line 2. (with the leading semicolon) will perform the offline scan
(If a QWK packet already exists for the user, it will be appended
to)
Line 3. will copy the users message pointers from the USERS.SYS pack to
the user files.
NOTE: PCBoard WILL exit back to DOS after exectuting this command.
- Added command line configurability for prescans (method A above)
ROMAIL /P [prescan options]
/S=<sec> - only prescan people with security level <sec>
/S=<low>+ - only prescan people with security >= given level
/S=<high>- - only prescan people with security <= given level
/S=<low>-<high> - only prescan people in a range of securities
/N=<username> - scan one specific user
NOTE: for two word names, use "/N=<first> <last>" with the quotes
/L=<file name> - scans all users specified in the text file.
- One user/line, flushed left without any quotes
Security levels can be used in combination with /L or /N but the user
MUST have the prescan option selected.
NOTE: setting security levels here override the minimum set in RM.
- Sysop paging now obeys the paging hours.
- Added some additional @variable support.
- For Goodbyes issued from a stacked command line (ie. D;Y;G), a 10 second
delay has been added where the user has the option to abort the hangup
or hangup immediately. This does not appear if the G is entered by itself
directly on the command line.
- Improved support for conference specific securities, transfer limits, etc.
