Setting up RoseMail 1.70 (See also WHATSNEW.170)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
NOTE: If you are a Registered RoseMail Sysop, please call Rose Media
BBS at 416-733-2285 and open the 'Register Door' and 'D'ownload
a new Key file. If you are not a registered RoseMail Sysop and
wish to become one, call the above number and apply for your
RoseMail Key in the 'Register Door' using the 'A'pply command.
!A new Key is required for proper functioning of the 1.70 software!
- Back up all of your RMAIL.DATs then run RM on all of them to update them
to the 1.70 format.
- If you are using a multi-node system and are using multiple configuration
files (RMAIL.DATs), you should make sure that all nodes access a common
RMail directory (as defined in RM-file Paths) before installing 1.70.
- If you are currently using DESQview, you should now configure DV
Writes to Screen and Virtualize screen to NO.
- If you wish to have users informed that they have mail waiting when they
logon, set the option to do so in RM 'options'.
- Rebuild all of the RoseMail RDX files or duplicates of current messages
will NOT be noticed. This is available under 'Duplicate Checking' in RM.
- To improve RoseMail download scan, file selection and RM /I, you
should run 'Conference Optimize' in RM. RoseMail will run without the
OPT.LST (created by Confernece Optimize) without any change in speed.
However, using the OPT.LST can give considerable performance improvements
in various situations. If you do use the OPT.LST, you will be required to
re-run the 'Conference Optimize' in RM after adding, removing or changing
your message base structure in PCBoard in order for RoseMail to notice.
- To use HS/Link, modify your transfer protocol in RM. The download
command should be 'HSLINK -B%1 -P%2 -U%5' and an upload command of
'HSLINK -U%5'. The environment variable should be set to 'DSZLOG'.
- Check the maximum work directory size under OPTIONS to make sure that
it is not too small. Having a small maximum can result in failed
mail scans.
- If you want to allow prescanning, make sure that your OPTIONS are set
correctly for the minimum security level and maximum offline packet size.
See WHATNEW.170 for details.
