  1. Wave Rider 1.10 Release Notes

  4. The differences between Wave Rider 1.10 and 1.01 are numerous.
  5.  
  6. The most obvious change is the ability of the user to change the look
  7. and feel of the program dramatically.
  8.  
  9. Wave Rider 1.10 now allows three different sizes of tools, and added a
  10. Toolbox.
  11.  
  12. Definition: Toolbox - floating Toolbar, resizable. NOTE: the Toolbox
  13. does not "dock", it is free floating.
  14.  
  15. Both the Toolbar and Toolbox can be configured to display any menu
  16. item. Most (99.9%) of the menu items have equivalent icons. If you end
  17. up with a blank grey icon in your Toolbar or Toolbox, it is because
  18. the icon for it does not exist. View Status Bar is one of these.
  19.  
  20. Changes to the Toolbar and Toolbox are immediate.
  21.  
  22. Caution: If you "lose" your floating Toolbar, it may be because it is
  23. physically located off your screen. This may happen occasionally. To
  24. fix this, edit your WaveRdr.ini file, and remove the section titled
  25. [Toolbox].

  27. Hard Coded Settings
  28. ===================

  30. Wave Rider 1.10 now hard codes the number of characters you view on
  31. the screen to 79 characters in View mode, and 75 characters in Reply
  32. mode. This way, there won't be funny wrapping that can characterize
  33. earlier versions of Wave Rider.

  35. Accelerator Keys
  36. ================

  38. You can now redefine your accelerator keys. The menu choice is Options,
  39. Accelerators. NOTE: You must choose Assign to get the changes to
  40. "stick".

  42. Single character key remapping only works in READ mode, not reply
  43. mode.

  45. If you redefine the SPACE bar, it will only do ONE THING! <g> You can
  46. have it replace the page down key, but it WON'T go to the next
  47. message.

  52. The File Open dialog box now has additional functionality.

  71. Wave Rider was not quoting the very last line in a message. It now
  72. does.

  74. When attempting to import a text file that was over 32k, Wave Rider gave
  75. you no error message, it just didn't do it. Wave Rider now tells you
  76. that the file you want to import will go over 32k, do you still want
  77. to import it as a truncated file.

  79. Fixed problem in Printer Setup when you changed printers, Wave Rider
  80. didn't remember that you had changed it. When printing, you now print
  81. with the font you are reading with.

  83. Speeded up opening of large messages quite a bit, from 1.2 minutes to
  84. about 45 seconds. (1,000 line message) Not that big of a difference,
  85. but we be tryin'!

  109. 1. Carbon Copy.

  111.    Blind Carbon Copy (no cc: line) is now available when replying. To
  112.    access Carbon Copy, choose Carbon copy from the Messages menu.
  113.    There is no button or hot key for this feature.

  115.    You will be shown two list boxes, which you can populate either by
  116.    opening a saved text file or by typing in names in the text box
  117.    above the left list box. After you have populated the left list
  118.    box, choose OK to send the multiple messages.

  120. 2. Saving of window size.

  122.    With the release of 1.01, WaveRdr now remembers the window size of
  123.    opened message packets and reply windows.

  148. 1.  Changed several spelling errors in dialog boxes, and in one case,
  149.     add the word not as in " .. you must NOT use a root directory as a
  150.     temp directory..".

  152. 2.  Fixed problem with long headers in control.dat (QWK)

  154. 3.  Fixed problem with quoting, words wrapping to next line.

  156. 4.  Fixed problem with QWK taglines missing one character.

  164. Q:  How do I delete a reply?
  165.  
  166. A:  Replies are stored in a virtual area called "Replies."
  167.  
  168.     1. Choose Replies from the Areas menu. This makes Replies your active
  169.        window.

  171.     2. Choose List from the Messages menu.
  172.  
  173.     3. Highlight the message you want to delete in that list box.
  174.  
  175.     4. Choose Delete.

  177. Q:  How do I move from the top of the reply window to the bottom
  178.     without using my mouse?

  180. A:  The bottom window of the reply is a pane, to change panes, use the
  181.     F6 function key.

  183. Q:  Why does WaveRdr convert messages packets to BlueWave format
  184.     before opening?
  185.  
  186. A:  It was easier to code that way. If we had included both native
  187.     file formats, the resulting executible would have been much
  188.     larger.

  190. Q:  Why do QWK taglines only allow 57 characters, and BlueWave
  191.     taglines allow 70 characters?
  192.  
  193. A:  During early beta testing, every packet format could use 70
  194.     characters. However, the ... sequence BlueWave taglines use at
  195.     the beginning of each line caused some mail tossers to puke, so we
  196.     hard coded 57 characters in QWK mode.

  198. Q:  Why do replies take forever to come up?
  199.  
  200. A:  Wave Rider loads the tagline file in each time you reply to a
  201.     message. If you have a large number of taglines, it will take
  202.     longer for Wave Rider to display the Reply window.

  204. Q:  Can I register via credit card?
  205.  
  206. A:  You sure can. Crystal Cavern has a credit card door on line to take
  207.     your order. Choose W from the main menu. Or, you can send your
  208.     credit card information via mail.

  210. Q:  What language is Wave Rider written in?  Why is the unzipper a
  211.     Visual Basic application?
  212.  
  213. A:  WaveRdr is written 100% in Visual C++ version 1.5. WRUZ.exe, the
  214.     zipper/unzipper was written with code we purchased from EllTech.
  215.     Their C routines are not available yet. Once they become
  216.     available, WRUZ's functionality will be added to WaveRdr.

  218. Q:  How do I get my Ansi bulletins?
  219.  
  220. A:  AnsiView is the ansi viewer spawned by WaveRdr. Choose View, Ansi
  221.     Message. You will then be given a menu of the most common files.

  223. Q:  Why can't I see all of my messages when using standard VGA?
  224.  
  225. A:  Wave Rider is hard coded to display 79 characters per line when
  226.     viewing messages. On some video displays, VGA, you won't be able
  227.     to see all of the line using a terminal font. There are several
  228.     other font choices that will work well. If you are a registered
  229.     user of Procomm Plus for Windows, it comes with additional TT
  230.     fonts that you can install into your global font lists via the
  231.     Control Panel.

  234. NOTE: This archive now contains an updated version of AnsiView. Fixes
  235. problems with mail packets that have over 25 bulletins in QWK mode.
