SCRIPT EXECUTION =ALT-Q executes a script of your choice. Scripts are a means of automating repetitive tasks such as dialing a service, logging in, and downloading files or electronic mail. To Queue a script, enter a script file name at the prompt OR a global file specification such as "*.scr" to select from a list. When a script is loaded and running, "S" will be displayed on the left Status line. Pressing ESC during this time will stop the script. Included with QCom is a sample script called QCom.SCR. Pressing ALT-- during script execution will allow you to monitor (debug) script progress. Pressing ALT-V while debugging will load your script into your editor for making corrections. WIPE SCREEN =Clears the screen of all text and restores the default terminal color as defined in the Options screen (ALT-O).
LOCAL ECHO =Local Echo can be toggled on or off. Use this function when you type something but cannot see it displayed on screen. Local Echo should be toggled on when the host does not echo your typed characters back to you. Status Line displays an "E" when local Echo is on. The default state is off.
REDIALING =Redials the last phone number dialed.
TRANSFER PROTOCOLS =Transfer protocols permit file transfers between the host and your PC with error checking. ZModem is recommended if it is available on the host. A "Z" or "Y" or "X" is displayed on the right side of the Status Line to reflect the current protocol; ZModem, YModem or XModem respectively.
HOST MODE =Alt-Y puts QCom into Host mode and waits for any incoming phone calls. Pressing ENTER puts you in local test mode and ESC ends Host mode. When the phone rings QCom answers, sends a welcome message (contained in the file QCOMHOST.MSG), and presents the caller with the menu of choices (QCOM.MNU). As Host, you can enter keystrokes to assist the caller.
ASCII UPLOAD =Sends a text file to the host with no error checking. Mainly used to upload a message to a host editor and thus will be sent considerably slower than other methods.
SCREEN SAVE =This dumps the entire contents of the current screen to a text file on disk. The default filename is specified in the Options screen (Alt-O).
OPTIONS =Options and configuration are set here. You can manually edit all the available options and can call up QCom Setup (press F1) to assist in com port, screen color and modem setup.
SEND PASSWORD =Sends the password from the currently selected Dialing Directory entry (if a password is present).
SOUND FUNCTIONS =QCom sounds a warbling tone when a dialing connection is made or when a file transfer is complete. QCom can also play "ANSI" music it receives. ALT-A toggles these functions on and off. When on, the Status Line displays a "". When off, it also disables any incoming "BEEP" (Ascii 7) sent from the host. The default Sound setting can be set in the Options screen (ALT-O).
SCRIPT SAVER =Script Saver stores the keystrokes and commands you enter, and writes them into a script file. It also saves any incoming lines of text that require user input which is terminated by the ENTER key. NOTE: Input lines not terminated with ENTER are not saved. When Script Save is active, an "s" will be displayed on left side of the Status Line. Press Alt-S a second time to stop Script saving.
DIALING DIRECTORY =Dialing Directory allows the entry of name, phone number and other details for online services. The Directory is sorted automatically after saving an Edited entry. The Dialing Directory is called up automatically at startup by default, but this feature can be disabled in the Options setup screen (ALT-O). TIP: Pressing ALT + the first letter of an entry will place the cursor on the first entry starting with that letter.
LINE FEEDS =Line feeds must be present to prevent incoming lines overwriting previous text. If this happens then use Alt-F to add the missing line feeds. The default setting is off.
PRINT CAPTURE =This function causes all received text to be sent to the printer as well as the screen. Use this when you wish to view an unattended session at a later time. Default is off.
HANG-UPS =ALT-H hangs up the phone by sending the hangup string found in the Options screen and by toggling DTR off.
DOS SHELL =Allows a temporary exit to DOS without ending QCom for the purpose of executing another DOS function, batch file or program while online. Connection to a host is retained until the host's keyboard activity timeout is exceeded, at which time the host will disconnect.
TERMINAL EMULATION =Terminal emulation modes of ANSI and TTY are available. ANSI emulation allows control of color and cursor positioning while TTY does not. ALT-K switches between them. The default setting is specified in the Options screen (Alt-O).
SESSION CAPTURE =When active, incoming text is saved in a file for future viewing/editing. A "C" is displayed on the Status Line during capture. The default filename can be changed in the Options screen (Alt-O). To capture ALL received data and store it in raw unfiltered form use the /ALL switch after the default capture filename in Options. eg "QCOM.CAP /ALL".
COMMANDS =Alt-Z Displays this list of available commands.
ENDING QCOM =Alt-X ends your QCom session and returns to DOS.
COMM PARAMETERS =Communication parameters cover such things as Baud rate (speed), Parity, Data and Stop Bits by which your computer talks to the outside world. They can be changed prior to or during an online session. Typically, you set the baud rate to match the highest speed of your modem. Set the parity, data and stop bits to match the host computer requirements. Most commonly, No parity, 8 databits and 1 stopbit is used in PC communications. Some major online services may use Even parity, 7 databits and 1 stopbit. To change Com Port it is necessary to change it in the Options screen (Alt-O) when Offline.
EDIT/VIEW =Allows you to view or edit a text file. The editor/viewer is defined in the Options screen (Alt-O). Default is TED.COM.
SCROLLBACK BUFFER =The Scrollback feature allows you to view text that has scrolled off the screen. This text can be saved to disk, searched or erased. Up to 500 lines of text can be held in the buffer. You can also select or "Quote" lines from this buffer and save them on disk for viewing/editing or send them back to the host when answering electronic mail or messages.
CHAT MODE =Split screen "Chat mode" used when typing messages back and forth when online. It separates incoming and outgoing text to prevent overwriting.
MODEM INITIALIZATION =The Modem Initialization is a series of commands to ready the modem for communications. Correct commands are important so that all functions work as intended. This Initialization is defined in the Options screen (Alt-O). Run QCom Setup (press F1) at the Options screen for assistance in selecting the right one for your modem.
DOOR MODE =Toggles "Door Mode" on and off. Door mode sends all key codes to the host including all Ctrl keys, cursor keys and all Alt keys except Alt-=.
FUNCTION-KEY DEFINITIONS =Displays the Function key "Macro" definitions as they are setup in Options. Use Alt-O to access the Options screen to define these to suit your needs. The text you enter for a given function key (F1 to F10) will be sent to the host when that function key is pressed. A suggested use is for frequently typed things such as your name, phone number, password, etc.
ALT-KEY DEFINITIONS =Displays the list of user-defined macros. Registered users receive instructions on how to use this feature.
SEND FILES =Transmits the file of your choice to the host using the current protocol. To select a file type in the filename or enter a global filespec (eg. *.zip) to select from a list. To change the current protocol, use Alt-T or edit the default protocol for that entry in the Dialing Directory.
RECEIVE FILES =Receives a file from the host using the current protocol. To change the current protocol, use Alt-T or edit the default protocol for that entry in the Dialing Directory. If the current protocol is ZModem then pressing PgDn is not required. QCom will start the download automatically when it sees the Receive ZModem command string from the host.
SEND BREAK =Ctrl-End sends a "BREAK" signal to the host system. Some mainframe computers require this signal to disconnect and end a session.
