  3. This CD-ROM contains the SIMTEL20 MSDOS Archive.  
  4.  
  5. The disc is set up like a large hard disk, with the files in subdirectories.
  6. The disc as a whole has no licensing restrictions.  It may be used on
  7. networks and BBS's.
  8.  
  9. Please see README.2ND for detailed instructions on how to use the disc.

  16. index.txt       A list of all the files in the archive
  17. index.z         Compressed copy of index.txt
  18. index.zip       Zipped copy of index.txt
  19. pkunzip.exe     Program for unzipping files named *.zip
  20. pkunpak.exe     Program for unpacking files named *.arc
  21. list.com        Program to view text files
  22. cdf.exe         A program for searching the index
  23. grep.exe        Another program for searching the index
  24. msdos/          Directory containing the Simtel MSDOS Archive
  25. games/          Directory containing the Ulowell Games Archive
  26. utils/          Directory containing some utility programs and docs
  27. bbs/            Directory containing support for bulletin board systems

  30. Although you may own this disk, you do not own the programs recorded on
  31. it.  Many of the programs on this disk are shareware.  You are free to
  32. try each program for a limited amount of time.  If you are satisfied,
  33. and want to continue to use the program, you are required to register
  34. the program by sending a specified amount of money directly to the the
  35. author of the program.  In many cases the author will send you the most
  36. up to date version of the program and a printed manual.  Please check
  37. the individual files for specific information.

  39. If you have access to the internet, you can access the SIMTEL20 archives
  40. via anonymous ftp at WSMR-SIMTEL20.ARMY.MIL.  There are also mirror sites
  41. at WUARCHIVE.WUSTL.EDU and OAK.OAKLAND.EDU.

  43. WSMR-SIMTEL20.ARMY.MIL is owned and operated by the US Army Information
  44. Systems Command, White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico.

  46. The maintainers of the SIMTEL20 archive asked me to include this
  47. disclaimer:

  49.     Due to the large number of files available, the SIMTEL20 archive
  50.     maintainers cannot possibly attempt to validate the proper
  51.     operation of the various programs.  When a program bug is
  52.     reported, immediate action is taken to either correct the error or
  53.     remove the offending program from the archives.  Still, users must
  54.     understand that all archive programs are offered AS IS, and the
  55.     archive maintainers specifically disclaim any liability should
  56.     these programs malfunction or cause damage, incidental or
  57.     otherwise.  When testing ANY new software, be certain that all
  58.     information stored on disk is backed-up before you start, so that
  59.     you can recover if files are damaged or erased.  This is
  60.     particularly true if you have a hard disk, in which case
  61.     malfunctions can be spectacularly disastrous.
