  7. I am pleased to announce the opening of an anonymous ftp site dedicated
  8. to handling programs and information files for the handicapped.  The
  9. site is:

  13. and the IP address is 129.189.4.184
  14.  
  15. The files on this machine are duplicates of the files from the Handicap
  16. News BBS.  As I get more disk space and time, I will include all 2800+
  17. issues of the Handicap Digest. 
  18.  
  19. What kind of files can you find here? Sign language tutors, screen
  20. enlargers, one-finger programs, the complete text of ADA (American
  21. Disabilities Act), screen readers, speech synthesizer drivers, the
  22. Handicap BBS list, the IBM Disability Resource Center guides, back
  23. issues of the Braille Monitor, the Braille Forum and other various
  24. newsletters and much more.  Right now, there are somewhere around 800
  25. files and programs and I have another 800 or so that I have not had the
  26. time to check, re-format and store on the archive.

  28. Actually, this site has been up and running for the past 6 months
  29. or so.  I have just re-organized the entire system and moved it
  30. to a slightly larger disk.

  92. You will find some of these directories empty or nearly so, other
  93. directories overflowing.  I have several hundred more files and programs
  94. that I have not had the time to put either here or on the Handicap News
  95. BBS so hopefully there will be more information constantly available
  96. here.  If certain directories get too large, I will split them up. 
  97.  
  98. In each directory, there should be a file called "00-index.txt" which
  99. will be a listing and description of the files in that directory. 
  100.  
  101. Hopefully, there will be one file in the "/pub" directory (where
  102. you start out when you first ftp here) called "index" which will
  103. be a listing of all of the files available.  At some point, there
  104. will also be a file called "new" which will describe what is new
  105. within the last 30 days.
  106.  
  107. Most of the text files in here are in PC format, that is, each line
  108. is terminated by both a line feed and a carriage return.  If you are
  109. viewing these files on a non-PC machine, you may have some problems or
  110. you may see control M's at the end of each line.  There are various
  111. programs which can remove these control M's if you do not want to use
  112. your normal text editor. 
  113.  
  114. Please use your e-mail address as your password when you log on as
  115. anonymous.  This allows me to contact you if I find a problem with
  116. any certain file. 
  117.  
  118. One special note:  Due to the sheer number of files and programs
  119. for the visually impaired, I've created 11 different directories
  120. as follows:

  133. Most of the programs here are for the PC, hence the posting of this
  134. article to this newsgroup.  I will still continue to send the major
  135. disability-related programs to the SIMTEL20 directory, MISC.HANDICAP.

  137. If you have suggestions for new directories and any comments
  138. on how I can improve this site and make it more useful to
  139. YOU, please let me know.

  141. If you would like to upload a program or file, PLEASE do.  You must log
  142. in as "incoming" or "upload" and use your e-mail address as your
  143. password.  This will place you in the /pub/upload directory.  Please
  144. leave me a readme type file or send me mail describing the file. 
  145. Programs must be demos, shareware or freeware. 
  146.  
  147. I will make announcements of all new files and programs in the
  148. misc.handicap newsgroup and the Handicap Digest mailing list.  PC based
  149. programs will also be announced here in comp.binaries.ibm.pc.archives.
